A multidisciplinary approach reveals a new species of glassfrog from Colombia (Anura: Centrolenidae: Nymphargus)

Sebastian O. Montilla et al.

Summary: Glassfrogs have become a popular model system for ecological and evolutionary studies due to their well-established taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships. However, there are still unresolved species complexes within the Centrolenidae family. In this study, a new glassfrog species endemic to Colombia (Nymphargus pijao sp. nov.) is described using data on morphology, advertisement call traits, and genetic sequences. Additionally, a low-cost method for rearing the new species' tadpoles is presented, which can contribute to a better understanding of glassfrog biodiversity in the Neotropics.

Revisiting the phylogenetic predicament of the genus Huia (Amphibia: Ranidae) using molecular data and tadpole morphology

Umilaela Arifin et al.

Summary: Despite previous research, the systematics of the ranid genus Huia have remained unresolved due to insufficient sampling and morphological similarities. Through extensive fieldwork in Java and Sumatra, a new proposal for the systematic classification of the genus was put forward based on comprehensive sampling and an integrative taxonomy framework.

The tadpoles of the Iron Quadrangle, southeastern Brazil: A baseline for larval knowledge and anuran conservation in a diverse and threatened region

Tiago Leite Pezzuti et al.

Summary: This study provides a regional taxonomic catalog of tadpoles in the Iron Quadrangle in Brazil, describing 67 species and including the first descriptions of larvae of seven species. Many previously known tadpoles showed deviations from published descriptions, which could be useful for future taxonomic studies.

Summary: Tadpole research has increased in the past decade, but our understanding of their morphological diversity remains limited. Describing and comparing the morphological characteristics of tadpoles from different populations can help deepen our understanding of frog larvae and aid in species identification and classification.
