Investigating active area dependent high performing photoresponse through thin films of Weyl Semimetal WTe2

Sahil Verma et al.

Summary: WTe2 is a promising material for room temperature broadband photodetection applications due to its unique properties. The photoresponse of WTe2 thin films and microchannel devices on silicon nitride substrates is studied, showing a clear rise in photocurrent under visible and NIR wavelengths. The channel length dependence of photocurrent is observed, with microchannels exhibiting greater responsivity compared to larger active areas. The high performance of WTe2 in terms of responsivity and detectivity suggests its potential for future optoelectronic applications.

Hybrid mixed-dimensional WTe2/CsPbI3 perovskite heterojunction for high-performance photodetectors

Xiufeng Song et al.

Summary: Perovskites have great potential for use in photodetectors due to their exceptional electrical and optical properties. By integrating two-dimensional materials with perovskites, it is possible to achieve excellent optoelectrical properties by utilizing the high carrier mobility of the 2D materials and strong light absorption of perovskite. In this study, a photodetector based on the WTe2/CsPbI3 heterostructure is demonstrated. The WTe2/CsPbI3 heterojunction facilitates efficient charge transfer, leading to quenching and shortened lifetime of photoluminescence for CsPbI3 perovskite. Coupling with WTe2 significantly improves the photoresponsivity of the CsPbI3 photodetector due to the high-gain photogating effect. The WTe2/CsPbI3 heterojunction photodetector exhibits a large responsivity of 1157 A W-1 and a high detectivity of 2.1 x 10(13) Jones, paving the way for high-performance optoelectronic devices based on 2D materials/perovskite heterojunctions.

Superconductivity in type II layered Weyl semi-metals

B. Rosenstein et al.

Summary: Novel 'quasi 2D' layered (semi)metals provide an opportunity to control electronic matter density and topology. In the intercalated MoTe2 type II Weyl semi-metal, the large tilt of the dispersion relation cones results in a topologically distinct Fermi surface. Recent observation of superconductivity in this compound revealed two puzzling phenomena: the insensitivity of critical temperature, Tc, to gate voltage in a wide density range, and the sensitivity to inter-layer distance. A phonon theory of pairing in layered Weyl materials, considering the effects of Coulomb repulsion, explains these features in MoTe2.

Summary: A multifunctional additive, 4-amino-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid (ATFBA), is used to improve the stability and performance of Sn-Pb perovskite photodetectors. ATFBA passivates surface defects and inhibits the oxidation of Sn2+ through hydrogen bonds and chelation coordination. The photodetector exhibits a high responsivity of 0.52 A W-1 and a specific detectivity of 5.34 x 10(12) Jones at 850 nm, remaining 97% of its initial responsivity over 450 days. Integrated into a pulse oximetry sensor visualization system, the photodetector accurately measures blood oxygen saturation and heart rate with less than 2% error.
