Associations between Visual Acuity and Cognitive Decline in Older Adulthood: A 9-Year Longitudinal Study

Ashlyn Runk et al.

Summary: This study provides evidence that low vision is a modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline. Better visual acuity is associated with higher concurrent cognitive abilities and slower rates of decline over a 9-year period. These findings support the potential of vision impairment as a target for interventions aimed at protecting cognition.

Low Vision and Dry Eye: Does One Diagnosis Overshadow the Other?

Etty Bitton et al.

Summary: The prevalence of dry eye disease and low vision increases with age and shares common risk factors. However, despite multiple risk factors for dry eye disease in low vision patients, dry eye tests were not frequently performed in comprehensive low vision eye examinations in this study. Greater efforts should be made to assess dry eye disease to improve comfort and functional vision, especially with the growing use of digital devices as visual aids.
