Chromatographic profile and antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activity of Sideritis leptoclada: An endemic plant from Turkey

Cengiz Sarikurkcu et al.

Summary: Sideritis species have been traditionally used for their antimicrobial, digestive, anti-ulcerogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. This study focused on evaluating the chemical composition and bioactivities of solvent extracts from S. leptoclada, revealing high antioxidant activity in the water extract and potent inhibitory effects on tyrosinase by the MeOH extract. Docking analysis suggested that verbascoside could be a promising inhibitory agent for tyrosinase and alpha-amylase.

Summary: This study investigated the chemical components of Sideritis albiflora, a plant species endemic to Turkey, revealing the presence of various compounds such as chlorogenic acid and verbascoside in the infusion and methanol extract, and germacrene D and beta-caryophyllene in the essential oil. Traditionally, infusions of some Sideritis species have been used to treat various diseases, and the lack of research on phenolic compounds in S. albiflora infusions highlights the importance of this study. The effective phenolic compounds in S. albiflora are believed to support the plant's traditional uses.
