Exploiting the tuneable density of scCO2 to improve particle size control for dispersion polymerisations in the presence of poly(dimethyl siloxane) stabilisers

Kristoffer Kortsen et al.

Summary: In this study, the tunable density of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) was used to influence the solubility of polymer stabilizers in dispersion polymerization, allowing for control over the particle size of the polymer. This expands the potential application of scCO2 as a green solvent for industrial polymer production.

Morphology of multilayer core-shell emulsion: Influence of crosslinking agent

Juan Yang et al.

Summary: We describe a new method for synthesizing phase-separated multilayer core-shell emulsion particles with different morphologies, such as multilayer inverse core-shell (MLICS) particles and multilayer sea-island core-shell (MLSICS) particles. The morphology and size of the particles during the multistage polymerization process were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic laser scattering (DLS) methods. The effect of the crosslinking agent, divinylbenzene (DVB), on particle morphology was also discussed.

Antimicrobial 'inks' for 3D printing: block copolymer-silver nanoparticle composites synthesised using supercritical CO2

Ryan R. Larder et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel method for synthesizing polymer-silver composite microparticles using supercritical carbon dioxide, avoiding the use of environmentally harmful solvents. The synthesized composites showed good antimicrobial activity and compatibility in the 3D printing process.
