Signaling mechanisms underlying lymphatic vessel dysfunction in skin aging and possible anti-aging strategies

Yuling Yang et al.

Summary: Aging-related skin diseases are increasing due to cutaneous homeostasis imbalance in aging population. Lymphatic vessels play an important role in maintaining fluid balance. In intrinsically aged skin, lymphatic vessel dysfunction is related to reduced adhesion junctions and downregulation of the VEGFC/VEGFR-3 signaling pathway. In extrinsically aged skin, hyperpermeability of lymphatic vessels is caused by decreased tight junction molecules and dysregulation of the VEGFC/VEGFR-3 signaling pathway. Phyto therapeutics can attenuate skin aging by modulating lymphatic vessels.

Cutaneous β HPVs, Sun Exposure, and Risk of Squamous and Basal Cell Skin Cancers in Australia

Anne Kricker et al.

Summary: Sun exposure is a major risk factor for cutaneous squamous (SCC) and basal cell (BCC) carcinomas. This study found that beta-1 and beta-3 HPV DNA are associated with an increased risk of SCC and BCC. The presence of beta-3 HPVs also modifies the effects of sun exposure on these cancers.

T Cell Metabolism in Infection

Jonas Aakre Wik et al.

Summary: T lymphocytes play a crucial role in clearing pathogen infections, and activation of CD4 and CD8 T cells is essential for overcoming pathogen infections. Metabolic reprogramming shapes T cell functionality during viral and bacterial infections. Viral infections such as SARS-CoV-2 and HIV, as well as bacterial infections like MT, impact T cell metabolic programs.

Reactive Oxygen Species in Regulating Lymphangiogenesis and Lymphatic Function

Bhupesh Singla et al.

Summary: The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune surveillance and tissue homeostasis, and lymphangiogenesis, the formation of new lymphatic vessels, is involved in various physiological and pathological processes. Recent research progress in the molecular mechanisms of lymphangiogenesis has opened up new possibilities for therapeutic approaches in diseases such as neurological disorders, cardiac repair, autoimmune disease, obesity, and atherosclerosis.

Squamous cell carcinomas in organ transplant recipients. Comparison of histopathological and clinical features of squamous cell carcinoma in patients after organ transplantation to immunocompetent patients

Joanna Renczynska-Matysko et al.

Summary: The occurrence of neoplasms in organ transplant recipients is a common complication and a leading cause of death. Skin cancers, especially squamous cell carcinoma, are the most frequently observed. However, the ratio of squamous cell carcinoma to basal cell carcinoma in organ transplant recipients varies in different studies depending on factors such as follow-up time, country, and environment. Squamous cell carcinoma in this population tends to have a more aggressive course with metastases and multifocal growth. The clinical and histopathological characteristics of squamous cell carcinoma in organ transplant recipients differ from those observed in immunocompetent patients, affecting tumor treatment and prognosis.

DIVERSITY AND BIOLOGY OF CANCER-ASSOCIATED FIBROBLASTS

Giulia Biffi et al.

Summary: Efforts to develop anti-cancer therapies have mainly targeted the epithelial compartment, but recent studies have shown the significant influence of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumor progression. CAFs not only promote cancer cell proliferation, therapy resistance, and immune exclusion, but may also restrain tumor progression in certain contexts. Research on CAFs has focused on their heterogeneity, plasticity, and functions across different cancer types and states, as well as advancements in therapeutic strategies targeting CAFs currently undergoing preclinical and clinical evaluation.

YAP signaling induces PIEZO1 to promote oral squamous cell carcinoma cell proliferation

Kana Hasegawa et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the YAP signaling pathway promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell proliferation through the PIEZO1 channel, indicating a crucial role of YAP/PIEZO1 axis in tumorigenesis. These findings provide important insights into the understanding of cellular behavior changes during tumor growth.

Type I collagen deletion in αSMA+ myofibroblasts augments immune suppression and accelerates progression of pancreatic cancer

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: The stromal desmoplastic reaction in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma involves significant accumulation of type I collagen (Col1). Deletion of Col1 specifically in myofibroblasts accelerates PDAC progression by increasing Cxcl5 expression in cancer cells and promoting recruitment of myeloid-derived suppressor cells. Targeting CXCR2 and CCR2 may help restrain accelerated PDAC progression in the absence of stromal Col1.

Summary: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) plays a significant role in the non-invasive diagnosis of actinic keratoses (AK) by evaluating structural changes in skin and preventing the development of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), with the potential to assess such changes without the need for biopsies, as demonstrated in this study.

Summary: Piezo 1 is upregulated in CCA tissues, potentially promoting cell metastasis. Mechanical stimulation activates Piezo 1, leading to YAP nuclear translocation and increased cell motility, suggesting it may play a role in CCA metastasis via the Hippo/YAP signaling axis.
