A murine model to study the gut bacteria parameters during complex antibiotics like cefotaxime and ceftriaxone treatment

Matthieu Gregoire et al.

Summary: This study developed a murine model to study gut bacteria parameters during treatment with cefotaxime and ceftriaxone and compared fecal carriage of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae. Results showed that ceftriaxone treatment led to higher colonization levels and selected a particular microbial community compared to cefotaxime. It was suggested that substituting ceftriaxone with cefotaxime could prevent the selection of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae.
