Minimally invasive gingival phenotype modification in gingival recession associated with a non-carious cervical lesion using the root plastique technique (RPT): A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest study

Luigi Romano et al.

Summary: This study introduced the root plastique technique (RPT), aiming to modify the gingival phenotype of sites with gingival recessions (GRs) associated with non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) prior to surgical treatment. The results showed that RPT can increase keratinized tissue thickness and width, and reduce gingival recession in most of the sites.

Accurate gingival segmentation from 3D images with artificial intelligence: an animal pilot study

Min Yang et al.

Summary: This study evaluates a non-invasive technique based on precise 3D soft tissue reconstruction to predict gingival biotype using intraoral scanning and cone beam computed tomography. The results show a strong correlation between virtual and clinical measurements, with minimal differences observed between the two assessments.

Evaluation of esthetic outcome of delayed implants with de-epithelialized free gingival graft in thin gingival phenotype with or without immediate temporization: a randomized clinical trial

Maha Fawzy et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of immediate temporization on the pink esthetics of delayed implants in patients with thin gingival phenotype. The results showed that immediate and delayed temporizations had no effect on the pink esthetics of the delayed implants, but immediate temporization allowed earlier provisional crown delivery. There was also no significant difference between the two groups at 12 months regarding the keratinized tissue width and the soft tissue thickness.

Gingival Augmentation in the Thin Phenotype Using Injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin and Microneedling

Rajnandini Adhikary et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of microneedling (MN) with and without injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) on individuals with thin periodontal phenotypes. The results showed that the combination of i-PRF and MN led to a significant increase in gingival thickness (GT). This method provides a non-surgical approach to increase gingival thickness.

Gingival phenotype changes after different periodontal plastic surgical techniques: a single-masked randomized controlled clinical trial

Pasquale Santamaria et al.

Summary: The objective of this clinical study was to evaluate the effects of three surgical techniques on gingival thickness for root coverage. The results showed that both CAF + SCTG and CAF + L-PRF groups had significantly greater gingival thickness increase compared to the CAF alone group. CAF + SCTG technique also resulted in a more significant increase in keratinized tissue width.

Gingival phenotype distribution in young Caucasian women and men - An investigative study

Kai R. Fischer et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the relationship between gingival phenotype and tooth location based on selected index teeth and found that most molars showed a thick phenotype while premolars and incisors were predominantly categorized as thin. Thicker gingival phenotype was generally observed for maxillary teeth, with no significant differences between genders.

Periodontal phenotype: A review of historical and current classifications evaluating different methods and characteristics

Violeta Malpartida-Carrillo et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to review periodontal phenotype classifications and methods, and to identify methods based on periodontal phenotype components. The term "periodontal phenotype" is recommended by the World Workshop, consisting of gingival phenotype and bone morphotype. Specific methods are available for evaluating thin-scalloped, thick-scalloped, and thick-flat periodontal phenotypes.

Summary: By combining infrared thermal imaging with artificial intelligence, it may provide an interesting solution to assist physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic assessments. While the results show the potential of implementing IRT imaging with AI, more work is needed to improve feature extraction and classification metrics.

Is There an Association between the Gingival Phenotype and the Width of Keratinized Gingiva? A Systematic Review

Elpiniki Vlachodimou et al.

Summary: The concept of gingival phenotype and width of keratinized gingiva is relatively new in the periodontal scenario, influencing diagnosis and treatment. Through categorizing phenotypes and measuring the width of keratinized gingiva, dentists can tailor individualized treatment plans to achieve long-term periodontal health stability.
