A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Systemic Antihypertensive Medications With Intraocular Pressure and Glaucoma

Gareth Leung et al.

Summary: This article synthesized the literature on the association between antihypertensive medications and intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma. The results showed that β-blockers were associated with a lower risk of glaucoma and lower IOP, while calcium channel blockers were associated with a higher risk of glaucoma but not with IOP. There were no consistent associations between angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, or diuretics with glaucoma or IOP.

Study on phase evolution and promoting the pozzolanic activity of electrolytic manganese residue during calcination

Nan Duan et al.

Summary: Electrolytic manganese residue (EMR), a harmful by-product in the electrolytic manganese industry, can be effectively disposed of through calcination. The study used TG-MS and XRD to analyze the thermal reactions and phase transitions during calcination. The pozzolanic activity of calcined EMR was determined, and the leaching characteristics of Mn were tested. The results showed successful conversion of MnSO4 into stable MnO2 and transformation of Mn-rich bustamite into Ca(Mn, Ca)Si2O6. The study also demonstrated the removal of organic pollutants and ammonia through calcination, as well as a decrease in leaching concentration of Mn.

Association of Systemic Medication Use with Glaucoma and Intraocular Pressure The European Eye Epidemiology Consortium

Joelle E. Vergroesen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between commonly used systemic medications and glaucoma and intraocular pressure (IOP) in the European population. The use of calcium channel blockers (CCBs) was found to be associated with a higher prevalence of glaucoma, while the use of β-blockers was associated with lower IOP.

Increased Risks of Open-Angle Glaucoma in Untreated Hypertension

Jihei Sara Lee et al.

Summary: Hypertension is associated with open-angle glaucoma, but it is uncertain whether elevated blood pressure alone is associated with glaucoma. The risk of glaucoma is uncertain for stage 1 hypertension according to the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines.

Multiple Systemic Vascular Risk Factors Are Associated With Low-Tension Glaucoma

Robert O. Funk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the systemic risk factors associated with low-tension glaucoma and finds that multiple systemic vascular-related conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and migraine headache, are associated with low-tension glaucoma. The study strengthens the evidence for the vascular hypothesis of low-tension glaucoma.

Systemic Arterial Stiffness Is Associated With Structural Progression in Early Open-Angle Glaucoma

Jihei Sara Lee et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the association between arterial stiffness predicted by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (PWV) and structural progression in early open-angle glaucoma. The results showed that high PWV was associated with macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) loss preceding peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (ppRNFL) loss.
