Role of micro fibres in tailoring the specific heat capacity of cementitious composites at elevated temperatures: Experimental characterisation and micromechanical modelling

Tong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of micro fibres on the specific heat capacity of cementitious composites at elevated temperatures. The specific heat capacity of cement mortar reinforced with different types of fibres was measured and a multiscale homogenization model was developed to predict the specific heat capacity evolution. The results show that the addition of polypropylene and glass fibres lead to significant changes in specific heat capacity, and the thermal expansion of polymer fibre enhances the specific heat capacity of mortar.

Elucidating the speciation of extracted lanthanides by diglycolamides

Allison A. Peroutka et al.

Summary: Many studies have focused on the application of DGAs for f-element separations, and the molecular structure of DGA derivatives has been found to affect intra-lanthanide partitioning patterns. Spectroscopic and scattering techniques can provide information on the coordination and nanoscale structures of lanthanide-DGA complexes. However, there is a lack of collective assessment on the speciation of Ln(3+) in the organic phase. This review evaluates the current state of knowledge and highlights the importance of diluents, phase modifiers, and DGA derivatization.

Ambilateral convergent directional freeze casting meta-structured foams with a negative Poisson's ratio for high-performance piezoresistive sensors

Huawen Liu et al.

Summary: Flexible piezoresistive sensors have extensive applications in wearable electronic skin, health monitoring, and motion detection. The limitations of conventional sensors include low sensitivity, restricted measuring range, poor mechanical properties, and lateral expansion caused by positive Poisson's ratio effects. In this study, a new design methodology called ambilateral convergent directional freeze casting technique was introduced to fabricate anisotropic porous foams with a negative Poisson's ratio. These meta-structured foams with negative Poisson's ratio effects significantly enhance the sensitivity, sensing reliability, mechanical elasticity, and compression resistance of the sensors. They also exhibit smart resistivity repair behavior and can be used for pressure distribution monitoring and athlete's gait analysis.

Maryam Saleh Mohammadnia et al.

Summary: A hybrid nanocomposite of N,S-doped carbon dots/carbon nanotube-poly(amidoamine) dendrimer was synthesized and used as a highly selective electrochemical sensor for the determination of imatinib mesylate. The nanocomposite showed excellent electrocatalytic properties, generating a higher oxidation peak current for imatinib mesylate compared to other electrodes. The N,S-CDs/CNTD/GCE exhibited a linear relationship between concentration and oxidation peak current of imatinib mesylate, with a detection limit of 3 nM. The reproducibility and stability of the sensor were also excellent when quantifying imatinib mesylate in blood-serum samples.
