Preparation of thin (∼2 μm) Pd membranes on ceramic supports with excellent selectivity and attrition resistance

Yuxin Yang et al.

Summary: Thin Pd membranes with a thickness of about 2 μm were prepared by a two-step electroless plating method on porous ceramic supports. The membranes exhibited stable and high hydrogen permeation flux and selectivity under different operating conditions. The effect of gas mixtures on the hydrogen permeation flux was studied, and the membranes also showed good resistance to attrition.

Thermally stable membranes based on PdNiAu systems with high nickel content for hydrogen separation

Yelisbeth Escalante et al.

Summary: PdNiAu-based composite membranes were obtained through sequential electroless deposition by modifying the Ni deposition time. After annealing, homogeneous alloy composition with FCC structure was achieved. H2 permeance decreased as the Ni composition increased and increased with lattice parameter. The membrane with 29 at.% Ni showed the best performance, even higher than pure Pd. The membranes exhibited high stability at high temperatures.

Selective and efficient hydrogen separation of Pd-Au-Ag ternary alloy membrane

Qi Zhou et al.

Summary: This study used density functional theory simulations to investigate the hydrogen separation performance of Pd-Au-Ag membrane and compared it with Pd-Au alloy. The results showed that the Pd-Au-Ag alloy exhibited superior selectivity and permeability, making it a promising membrane for hydrogen separation.

Highly selective Pd composite membrane on porous metal support for high-purity hydrogen production through effective ammonia decomposition

Tae-Woo Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, an alumina sol assisted pretreatment method was used to prepare a highly selective Pd composite membrane for ammonia decomposition. The membrane reactor achieved high ammonia conversion and high-purity hydrogen production, with the advantage of selectively removing hydrogen.

Advances in hydrogen selective membranes based on palladium ternary alloys

M. Laura Bosko et al.

Summary: This review provides an in-depth analysis of Pd-based ternary alloy membranes for hydrogen separation, focusing on PdAgAu, PdCuAg, and PdCuAu systems. These alloys show improved hydrogen permeability and chemical resistance, with correlations between permeation properties and lattice parameters. Surface segregation behavior is also analyzed in these ternary alloys, even after exposure to CO, CO2, and H2S, indicating the need for further research on developing membranes with improved long-term stability.

Theoretical investigations of permeability and selectivity of Pd-Cu and Pd-Ni membranes for hydrogen separation

Zhengzhao Han et al.

Summary: This study theoretically explored the hydrogen separation performance of Pd-Cu and Pd-Ni alloy membranes, which exhibit superior selectivity to H-2 over N-2, CO, CO2, CH4, and H2S at varied temperatures, surpassing industrial production limits. Experimental conclusions are consistent with density functional theory calculations, further supported by molecular dynamics simulations.
