Visualizing Urban Accessibility: Investigating Multi-Stakeholder Perspectives through a Map-based Design Probe Study

Manaswi Saha et al.

Summary: This study conducts a three-part interview with 25 participants from different stakeholder groups to explore the visualization needs and sensemaking processes for urban accessibility assessment. The findings provide insights into how interactive visualizations can support stakeholder decision making, taking into account their familiarity with accessibility, geospatial analysis, and specific geographic locations. The study also offers 10 design considerations for geovisual analytic tools for urban accessibility communication, planning, policymaking, and advocacy.

Ethical issues of collecting, storing, and analyzing geo-referenced tweets for mental health research

Marta Fadda et al.

Summary: Spatial approaches to epidemiological research using big social media data provide opportunities to study the relationship between the social and ecological context of data generation and health indicators. However, ethical challenges related to privacy, informed consent, data security, and storage need to be addressed, especially in mental health research using geo-referenced social media data. This article aims to identify the strengths and limitations of current recommendations for addressing ethical issues in mental health research using geo-referenced tweets. It contributes to the ongoing debate on the ethical implications of big data research and provides recommendations for researchers and stakeholders on how to tackle these issues.

The family transition experience when living with childhood neuromuscular disease: A grounded theory study

Veronika Waldboth et al.

Summary: Neuromuscular diseases are rare conditions that cause progressive muscular weakness and increase physical dependence on families. A study exploring the family transition experience identified key issues such as living with dependence, striving for independence, maintaining close relationships, challenging social standards, grieving for loss, and finding unity in life. Family well-being is threatened by tension from stress, physical and emotional difficulties, strained relationships, and conflict, but coping strategies and communication shape the transition experience.

The impact of COVID-19 on rare and complex connective tissue diseases: the experience of ERN ReCONNET

Rosaria Talarico et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus on providing high-level care for COVID-19 patients has impacted the resourcing and routine care for other conditions, particularly in the rare connective tissue diseases (rCTDs) communities. The challenges faced by healthcare providers, institutions, patients, and families during the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak have emphasized the importance of ensuring continuity of care for patients with rCTDs. Planning future health policies should take into consideration the vulnerability of rCTD patients to be prepared for post-COVID era and other potential health emergencies.
