Image Noise Removal in Ultrasound Breast Images Based on Hybrid Deep Learning Technique

Baiju Babu Vimala et al.

Summary: This article uses a hybrid deep learning technique to remove local speckle noise from breast ultrasound images, improving the contrast and enhancing the details of the images. Spatial high-pass filtering algorithms were used to remove extreme sharpening and edge-sensitive terms were added to preserve image edges. The results showed that the method successfully removed local speckle noise without sacrificing image edges.

RED-MAM: A residual encoder-decoder network based on multi-attention fusion for ultrasound image denoising

Yancheng LI et al.

Summary: The research of ultrasound image denoising tasks, which are greatly affected by speckle noise, is a challenge due to the dependence of speckle noise on image data. This paper proposes a residual encoder-decoder method based on multi-attention fusion attention module (RED-MAM) for ultrasound image denoising. The proposed method achieves substantial improvement in the denoising effect and outperforms other methods on three ultrasound datasets.

US-Net: A lightweight network for simultaneous speckle suppression and texture enhancement in ultrasound images

Patrice Monkam et al.

Summary: In this study, we proposed an end-to-end framework called US-Net for simultaneous speckle suppression and texture enhancement in ultrasound images. The US-Net architecture is inspired by U-Net and incorporates a feature refinement attention block (FRAB) to effectively learn multi-level and multi-contextual features. Experimental results demonstrate that using US-Net for image enhancement can improve the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis.

An open-access breast lesion ultrasound image database: Applicable in artificial intelligence studies

Ali Abbasian Ardakani et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is a major global health burden and early detection is crucial for better clinical outcomes. Ultrasonography plays a vital role in managing breast lesions and the development of computer-aided diagnosis systems enhances its importance. In order to develop reliable CAD systems, diverse data from different populations and centers are needed to consider variations in breast cancer pathology. The current database includes ultrasound images and radiologist-defined masks of histologically confirmed benign and malignant lesions, which can aid in the development of robust CAD systems.

Real-time denoising of ultrasound images based on deep learning

Simone Cammarasana et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel deep learning framework for real-time denoising of ultrasound images. By comparing different denoising methods, Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimisation (WNNM) is selected as the best method and a tuned version is proposed to improve the quality and applicability of denoised images. Through the deep learning framework, the tuned-WNNM replicates the denoising results in real-time.
