Adducts of Bicyclic (Alkyl)(Amino)Carbene with ECl3 and Three Electron Reduction Thereof: Syntheses of BICAAC Stabilized E-E Bonded Compounds (E=P, Sb)

Manu Adhikari et al.

Summary: The stoichiometric reaction between bicyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (BICAAC) and group 15 chlorides (ECl3, E=P, Sb) to form Lewis adducts BICAAC:ECl3 (E=P (1), Sb (2)) has been investigated. The reaction of BICAAC with PPhCl2 results in the formation of [BICAAC:PPhCl2], which upon in-situ reduction with KC8 produces the phosphinidene complex BICAAC=P-Ph (3). Complete dechlorination of the BICAAC-ECl3 adducts 1 and 2 with KC8 leads to the formation of low-valent trans bent bis(BICAAC)E2 complexes (E=P (4) and Sb (5)). These complexes represent the first examples of BICAAC adducts with pnictogens and have been characterized using various spectroscopic techniques and single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Base-stabilized formally zero-valent mono and diatomic molecular main-group compounds

Ravi Yadav et al.

Summary: Transition metal compounds in their zero-oxidation state have long been known, but recently discovered main-group element compounds in a similar state have attracted increasing attention. These compounds show fascinating electronic structures, exceptional reactivities, and are valuable precursors for exotic chemical species synthesis. The use of different ligands to stabilize elements in their zero-oxidation state has been a focus of research in recent years.

N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Phosphinidenide Complexes as Hydroboration Catalysts

Jayeeta Bhattacharjee et al.

Summary: The reactions of N-heterocyclic carbene-phosphinidene adducts with dinuclear ruthenium and osmium complexes resulted in the formation of half-sandwich complexes with different geometries. The ruthenium complex showed high activity in the hydroboration of various substrates under mild reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic and kinetic studies suggested the formation of a monohydride complex as the catalytically active species.

Summary: This study presents a practical and versatile approach for the transformation of white phosphorus into useful organophosphorus compounds using a bridging anion [P(CN)(2)](-). Various organophosphorus compounds can be readily accessible through this method, which has significant impacts on the preparation of organophosphorus compounds in laboratory and industrial settings.

Solid-State Isolation of Cyclic Alkyl(Amino) Carbene (cAAC)-Supported Structurally Diverse Alkali Metal-Phosphinidenides

Aditya Kulkarni et al.

Summary: Cyclic alkyl(amino) carbene (cAAC)-supported, structurally diverse alkali metal-phosphinidenides have been synthesized and characterized through NMR studies and X-ray diffraction. The mechanism of electron transfer process was supported by cyclic voltammetry studies and Density Functional Theory calculations. The solid state oligomerization process was found to be largely dependent on the ionic radii of alkali metal ions, steric bulk of cAAC ligands, and solvation/de-solvation/recombination of the dimeric unit.

Synthesis and Coordination Ability of a Donor-Stabilised Bis-Phosphinidene

Terrance J. Hadlington et al.

Summary: Chelating phosphinidenes have not been previously reported, and the newly synthesized XantP(2) ligand shows a unique ability to form cationic complexes with element dihalides while also demonstrating the capacity to bind multiple metal centers in the presence of CuCl. Density Functional Theory calculations confirm the coordination capacity of 2 through observation of lone pairs of electrons and their directionality and hybridization.
