Ultralow contact resistance in organic transistors via orbital hybridization

Junpeng Zeng et al.

Summary: Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) are promising for unconventional electronics, but their high-performance has been limited by the contact resistance. In this study, the authors use transferred platinum (Pt) as contact material in C-10-DNTT OFETs to achieve ultralow total contact resistance. The Pt-catalyzed dehydrogenation reduces the metal-semiconductor gap, leading to enhanced performance with high hole mobility, low subthreshold swing, and high cutoff frequency. The authors also develop a resist-free transfer and patterning strategy for large-area OFET arrays with high yield and excellent variability.

Observation of Large Threshold Voltage Shift Induced by Pre-applied Voltage to SiO2 Gate Dielectric in Organic Field-Effect Transistors

Yifu Guo et al.

Summary: Field-effect transistors based on organic semiconducting materials (OFETs) have advantages such as mechanical flexibility, low manufacturing cost, and improved device parameters. However, a significant problem in OFETs is the shift in threshold voltage (V-TH). This study demonstrates that the V-TH of polymer OFETs with SiO2 dielectric is noticeably shifted by applying a large gate voltage, indicating the presence of charge trappings in the SiO2 bulk. The generality of this observation is further confirmed with other conjugated polymers.

Effects of Charge Traps on Hysteresis in Organic Field-Effect Transistors and Their Charge Trap Cause Analysis through Causal Inference Techniques

Somi Kim et al.

Summary: Hysteresis in organic field-effect transistors is caused by bias stress effects, which result in variations in the drain-source current when sweeping the gate voltage. Charge trapping, commonly found in interface states or semiconductors, is one of the main factors contributing to hysteresis. Despite extensive research, accurately measuring and characterizing charge traps remains challenging, and their impact on the hysteresis of organic transistors is still largely unknown. In this study, we conduct a literature survey on hysteresis caused by charge traps, analyzing the driving principle of organic transistors, different types of hysteresis, charge trap characteristics, estimation models, and their dynamics, as well as using causal inference methods for quantitative analysis of the relationship between hysteresis and traps.
