Spray-drying synthesis of fluorine-doped LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 as high-voltage cathodes for lithium-ion batteries

Chang-Peng Shih et al.

Summary: Pristine LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) and fluorine-doped LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4-xFx (x = 0.1; 0.2; 0.3) cathode materials were successfully synthesized using a facile spray-drying method. Fluorine doping resulted in the conversion of Mn4+ to Mn3+ ions and an increase in particle size. The LiNi0.5Mn1.5O3.9F0.1 cathode exhibited the best rate capability and cycling performance due to its excellent crystallinity, high Li+ diffusion coefficient, and low charge-transfer resistance. It also showed excellent resistance against Mn dissolution and impressive capacity retention at elevated temperatures. The LiNi0.5Mn1.5O3.9F0.1 electrode synthesized by the scalable spray-drying method is a promising high-voltage cathode material for high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Nonflammable all-fluorinated electrolytes enabling high-power and long-life LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4/Li4Ti5O12 lithium-ion batteries

Nan Piao et al.

Summary: This study reports a nonflammable all-fluorinated electrolyte that can support high-rate and inherent-safe 3.2V LNMO/LTO batteries. The nanoscale fluorinated interphase stabilizes the cathodic structure and suppresses side reactions during cycling, even at a high cutoff voltage of 5.0V. The LNMO/LTO cells in the all-fluorinated electrolyte exhibit excellent cyclability and wide temperature tolerance.

Improving the electrochemical performance of single crystal LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode materials by Y-Ti doping and unannealing process

Jingjun Liu et al.

Summary: This study prepared single-crystal LNMO particles and Y, Ti-doped LiNi0.45Mn1.45O4 particles using a sol-gel method under different annealing processes, and compared their structural and electrochemical performance through various analytical techniques. The results showed that the doped and unannealed samples had the largest amount of disordered structures and oxygen vacancies, exhibiting excellent electrochemical performance in terms of Coulombic efficiency and specific capacity after multiple cycles.
