High-temperature multispectral stealth metastructure from the microwave-infrared compatible design

Zhimin An et al.

Summary: Microwave and infrared stealth technology are crucial for the development of military equipment and national defense. However, as high Mach number weapons emerge, the need for new high-temperature multispectral compatible stealth materials becomes urgent. This paper proposes a new multispectral stealth metastructure that achieves high temperature microwave absorption and infrared stealth simultaneously. The metastructure is optimized using the Large-Mutation Genetic Algorithm (LMGA) and includes a high-temperature resistant patterned resistive film (PRF) to dissipate microwave energy and a dual-regulation thermal insulation skeleton and low emissivity infrared metasurface for high temperature infrared stealth. The research provides a way to design microwave infrared compatible stealth materials with multifunctionality.

Vehicle metastructure skin designed by overall-parameter evolutionary optimization for broadband microwave absorption

Mengtong Shan et al.

Summary: The metastructure fabricated by electromagnetic lossy materials has shown great potential in achieving broadband microwave absorption for civil and military applications. However, the complex surface structure of the metastructure limits its deployment on vehicles and aircraft due to poor aerodynamic properties and turbulence generation. To address this issue, a vehicle metastructure skin (VMS) is proposed to maintain a smooth surface while preserving the broadband absorption performance. An evolutionary optimization scheme with quartz fiber reinforced composite (QFRC) as the aerodynamic skin is introduced to solve the impedance mismatch between the metastructure and air. The fabricated VMS demonstrates -10 dB absorption performance in the frequency range of 1.26-25.8 GHz, with extensional absorption in the low frequency range below 2 GHz and wide-angle oblique broadband absorption in TE and TM polarization. The proposed optimization strategy effectively solves the aerodynamic problems caused by surface turbulence in the secondary structure of the metastructure.

Functional additive manufacturing of large-size metastructure with efficient electromagnetic absorption and mechanical adaptation

Ying Zhang et al.

Summary: Broadband microwave absorption is important for electromagnetic compatibility, radiation protection, and radar detection disguise. Traditional methods struggle to create large, curved structures for this purpose. However, the combination of material extrusion and high-speed printing can effectively manufacture large-size metastructures for broadband microwave absorption. This approach overcomes impedance mismatch and achieves both absorption and load-bearing performance.
