Three-sensor 3ω-2ω method for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal boundary resistance in film-on-substrate heterostructures

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: Solid heterostructures are widely used in advanced technologies, and their thermophysical properties are crucial for device performance. However, there is a lack of an appropriate experimental method for measuring these properties. In this study, a three-sensor 3 omega-2 omega method is proposed, which allows for simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivities and thermal boundary resistance in solid heterostructures without reference samples.

Unraveling Thermal Transport Correlated with Atomistic Structures in Amorphous Gallium Oxide via Machine Learning Combined with Experiments

Yuanbin Liu et al.

Summary: Combining machine-learning-based models and experimental observations can accurately describe the realistic structures, thermal transport properties, and structure-property maps of disordered materials, such as gallium oxide. Experimental evidence shows that machine-learning interatomic potentials enable accurate modeling of amorphous gallium oxide and its thermal transport properties. Atomistic simulations reveal the microscopic changes in short-range and medium-range order with density and elucidate how these changes affect heat transport. A physics-inspired structural descriptor is proposed to predict the relationship between structures and thermal conductivities in disordered phases.

Analytical integration of the heater and sensor 3? signals of anisotropic bulk materials and thin films

Jose Ordonez-Miranda et al.

Summary: This article derives and analytically integrates models for the heater and sensor 3? signals of the temperature field of anisotropic bulk materials and thin films. The integration is done using the Fourier transform and expressing the frequency dependence of temperature in terms of the modified Bessel and Struve functions. The exact integrated models are expected to facilitate the accurate determination of the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of anisotropic materials through a wide spectrum of modulation frequencies and without time-consuming numerical integration.

Toward Φ56 mm Al-Polar AlN Single Crystals Grown by the Homoepitaxial PVT Method

Danyang Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, crack-free and parasitic-free large Al-polar aluminum nitride single crystals were iteratively grown using the homoepitaxial physical vapor transport method. The experiments showed that stable growth of large Al-polar crystals with good structural quality and UV transparency was possible using a pure tungsten setup.

3ω techniques for measurement of volumetric heat capacity and anisotropic thermal conductivity of a solution processable, hybrid organic/inorganic film, Te-PEDOT:PSS

Carlos Forsythe et al.

Summary: A new approach using the 3 omega method has been developed for measuring the thermal properties of anisotropic films of hybrid materials. This method allows for the measurement of volumetric heat capacity and anisotropic thermal conductivity using relatively simple sample configurations, without the need for advanced lithography. The study reveals a significant anisotropy in the thermal conductivity of the test material, consistent with its nanoscale morphology.

Anisotropic thermoreflectance thermometry: A contactless frequency-domain thermoreflectance approach to study anisotropic thermal transport

Luis A. Perez et al.

Summary: We developed a novel contactless frequency-domain thermoreflectance approach for studying thermal transport. This method allows for accurate determination of all elements of the thermal conductivity tensor by using a line-shaped heater geometry and rotating the sample. It is particularly convenient for studying thermally anisotropic materials and does not require complex modeling or computational efforts.

A new spatial-domain thermoreflectance method to measure a broad range of anisotropic in-plane thermal conductivity

Puqing Jiang et al.

Summary: A new spatial-domain thermoreflectance (SDTR) method has been developed to measure the in-plane thermal conductivity of small-scale samples. This method can measure samples lacking in-plane symmetry and extends the limit of measurable thermal conductivity to as low as 1 W / (m.K), with high accuracy and ease of operation.

Shingi Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: A novel bidirectional 3 omega system was developed to measure the anisotropic thermal conductivity of thin films, successfully measuring the in-plane thermal conductivity of a 70 nm PEDOT:PSS film as high as 2.9 W m(-1) K-1 with an anisotropy of 10. The device can potentially be applied to thinner films by utilizing metal wires with a smaller width.
