Exploration of low field magnetic states in Nd1-x Ce xCrO3

Pragya Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the structural and magnetic properties of Nd1-xCexCrO3 (x = 0.05 - 0.175) single-phase samples to understand the influence of Ce substitution on the Nd-site. Our results suggest a possible covalent nature of Cr-O bonds based on the electron density profile. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the mixed Ce valency with a constant ratio of Ce3+/Ce4+ ions in all substituted compounds, along with charge neutralization through oxygen vacancies. The magnetization measurements revealed an increase in antiferromagnetic ordering temperature and spin-reorientation transition temperature upon Ce incorporation, indicating the effect of diluted superexchange interactions. The presence of mixed Ce ions also led to the merging of the hysteresis loop with a significant exchange bias field.

Emerging spin-phonon coupling through cross-talk of two magnetic sublattices

Mads C. Weber et al.

Summary: This article explores the phenomenon of spin-phonon coupling in SmFeO3. The study finds that a strong spin-phonon coupling effect occurs when both iron and samarium magnetic orders are present. This coupling is induced by the magnetism of iron rather than occurring spontaneously. The findings provide a new approach for discovering unknown properties.

Summary: PrFe0.5Cr0.5O3 polycrystalline material was prepared using conventional solid-state reaction process. The material exhibited a Pbnm orthorhombic system with thermally activated expansion of the crystal lattice. The magnetic, dielectric, and optical properties of the material indicate its multifunctionality.

Spin induced exchange bias and lattice modulation in Nd1-xEuxCrO3

Pragya Gupta et al.

Summary: The evolution of coupled phonons and exchange bias in perovskite-type Nd1-xEuxCrO3 samples was studied through temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopy and dc magnetization measurements. Non-monotonic behavior of the EB field around T* was observed, with T* lying between T-N and T-SR, confirming strong spin-phonon coupling through temperature dependence of phonon modes. The additional anomaly observed in low-temperature spin-phonon behavior was imprinted in T* from the non-monotonicity of the EB.

The spin reorientation and improvement of magnetocaloric effect in HoCr1-xGaxO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5)

Hongguang Zhang et al.

Summary: Non-magnetic Ga3+ doping in HoCrO3 triggers a new spin-reorientation transition and changes the crystal structure, electronic structure, Raman spectra, and magnetic behaviors. The dilution of magnetic couplings and appearance of complex magnetic transitions are observed with Ga3+ doping. Additionally, Ga3+ doping improves the magneto-caloric effect and refrigerant capacity, providing insights for optimizing MCE properties.

Comparison of the dielectric and magnetocaloric properties of bulk and film of GdFe0.5Cr0.5O3

Jianhang Shi et al.

Summary: The study compares the magnetic, magnetocaloric, and dielectric properties of bulk and thin film samples of GdCrO3 with 50% iron substitution. The results show that the thin film exhibits inferior magnetocaloric properties compared to the bulk sample, likely due to reduced magnetization. Further improvements in thin film quality are necessary to enhance magnetization and potential for on-chip cooling in miniaturized devices.

Magnetic phase diagram of rare-earth orthorhombic perovskite oxides

Alireza Sasani et al.

Summary: Spin reorientation and magnetization reversal in rare-earth orthorhombic perovskites depend on the relative strength and sign of superexchange and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions between rare-earth and transition-metal atoms. The occurrence of a smooth spin reorientation transition and magnetization reversal is due to a subtle balance of metal-metal and metal-rare-earth couplings, resulting in different rotation rates of spin sublattices in the intermediate coexistence region.
