Trends Over Time in Use of Nonrecommended Tests and Treatments Since Publication of the American Academy of Pediatrics Bronchiolitis Guideline

Summary: This cohort study analyzed the trends in nonrecommended services for bronchiolitis in pediatric patients since the publication of clinical practice guidelines. It found a continuous decrease in the use of most nonrecommended services after 2006, with a significant decline in bronchodilator use following the 2014 guideline update.

Comparative Efficacy of Bronchiolitis Interventions in Acute Care: A Network Meta-analysis

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness of treatments for bronchiolitis in children aged <= 2 years was compared using NMA and recent trial evidence. Nebulized epinephrine and nebulized hypertonic saline plus salbutamol were found to reduce the admission rate on day 1, while nebulized hypertonic saline or combined with epinephrine could shorten hospital length of stay. However, due to low confidence in the evidence, further rigorous trials are needed to confirm the conclusions.
