Single-Port Versus Multiport da Vinci System for Transoral Robotic Surgery of Hypopharyngeal and Laryngeal Carcinoma

Summary: This study compared the intra- and postoperative outcomes, technical advantages, and shortcomings of the da Vinci SP and the da Vinci Si/Xi systems for transoral laryngeal and hypopharyngeal resections. The results showed that the da Vinci SP system significantly reduced docking and console times. However, the SP group had a longer decannulation time, and there were no significant differences in postoperative outcomes and complications between the two systems.

Evaluation and application of CO2 laser fiber delivery for single port transoral robotic surgery

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using a CO2 laser delivery system in the Single-Port system (SPS) for transoral robotic surgery (TORS). The results showed that combining the SPS with the CO2 laser had similar usability scores compared to using electrocautery, and even performed better in some aspects. Therefore, the combination of the SPS and CO2 laser should be considered in robotic surgery.

Prognostic role of surgical margins in patients undergoing transoral robotic surgery after neo-adjuvant chemotherapy

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine if positive and close surgical margins are associated with worse prognosis in patients who underwent transoral robotic surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The results showed that positive margins were not independently predictive of tumor control and survival. A threshold of 1.25 mm was identified as the most appropriate to define close margins, but no difference was measured between close and wide negative margins.
