The trophoblast giant cells of cricetid rodents

Phelipe O. Favaron et al.

Summary: Giant cells, known as trophoblast giant cells (TGCs), play a significant role in placentation in cricetid rodents. They exhibit a high degree of polyploidy and can be found at fixed locations in the placenta or migrate deep into the uterus. The distribution of TGCs in cricetids is compared to that of murid rodents, revealing similarities in certain locations and characteristics of TGCs. The polyploidy of TGCs in cricetids amplifies selective genomic regions, suggesting the need for further study and research on these cells.

Temporospatial expression of osteopontin in both left and right uterine horns during the peri-implantation period of dromedary camel

Mohammed Salem Moqbel et al.

Summary: Pregnancy is primarily established and maintained in the left uterine horn in camels, with pregnancies in the right horn resulting in embryonic death. The study focused on the expression of osteopontin (OPN) during the peri-implantation period, which plays a role in embryo adhesion, implantation, and placentation. The research found that OPN expression significantly increased in both uterine horns, but was higher in the left horn. OPN mRNA and protein were detected and upregulated during peri-implantation, with a greater intensity in the left uterine horn.

The hormonal control of the uterus of the bat Myotis nigricans during its different reproductive phases: emphasis on progesterone and estradiol

Mateus R. Beguelini et al.

Summary: Myotis nigricans, a bat species endemic to the Neotropical region, plays an important ecological role in controlling nocturnal insects due to its insectivorous feeding habit and wide range of prey species. This study evaluated variations in serum hormone concentrations and uterine hormonal control in different reproductive phases of M. nigricans, showing that the uterus is strongly regulated by interactions between estradiol and progesterone. The expression of ER alpha and PR in the uterus appears synchronized to coordinate processes during pregnancy and lactation in this species.

The process of testicular regression also impacts the physiology of the epididymis of the bat Molossus molossus, although with a delay in epididymal response due to sperm storage

Emilia M. Soares et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the epididymis of the bat Molossus molossus, evaluating its morphological and morphometric variations, as well as aspects of its hormonal control during the annual reproductive cycle. The results showed that the epididymal physiology of M. molossus is impacted by total testicular regression and posterior recrudescence, with a delay in response due to sperm storage. The seasonal variations in epididymal physiology seem to be correlated to rainfall and photoperiod, regulated in part by the expression of the androgen receptor in epithelial cells.
