Accuracy of mandibular repositioning surgery using new technology: Computer-aided design and manufacturing customized surgical cutting guides and fixation plates

Ho Jin Yoo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to validate the accuracy of CAD-CAM customized surgical cutting guides and fixation plates on mandibular repositioning surgery. The results showed no statistically significant difference between planned and actual mandibular position, whether performed in isolation or combined with maxillary surgery. The precision and clinical feasibility of CAD-CAM customized surgical cutting guides and fixation plates on mandibular repositioning surgery were well within clinically acceptable parameters.

Three-Dimensionally Printed Patient-Specific Surgical Plates Increase Accuracy of Oncologic Head and Neck Reconstruction Versus Conventional Surgical Plates: A Comparative Study

Wei-fa Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, 3D-printed patient-specific surgical plates were found to improve the accuracy of oncologic head and neck reconstruction compared to conventional plates. The reconstruction accuracy was superior in terms of maxilla or mandible deviation and bilateral mandibular angles with 3D-printed plates. However, no significant differences were found in terms of osteotomy accuracy, intraoperative blood loss, total operative time, or length of hospital stay between the two groups.
