Paraloid® B-72/B-48N 1:1 as an Adhesive for Use in Hot Climates: Literature Review, Laboratory Testing, and Observational Field Study

Suzanne L. Davis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of 1:1 Paraloid(R) B-72/B-48N as a conservation adhesive in hot climates, finding that the blend outperformed B-72 alone but was less heat tolerant than expected. The focus should shift towards measuring the onset temperature of glass transition and conducting creep testing for a better indication of long-term adhesive stability.

Collapsed and re-swollen archaeological wood: efficiency and effects on the chemical and viscoelastic characteristics of wood

Benedetto Pizzo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficiency of different swelling agents in recovering the shape of collapsed archaeological wood and assessed their impact on the chemical and viscoelastic characteristics of wood through DMA. Results showed that while high swelling was obtained in most decayed samples, lignin loss and substantial weight decrease were observed, indicating the need for caution in using swelling agents for collapsed wood recovery.
