Molecular dynamics simulation of the cone-jet electrospray: Role of surfactants

Yunchao Li et al.

Summary: Electrospray in the cone-jet regime can produce highly charged and fine monodisperse drops, further disintegrating into nanoscale drops and ions. The jet and its breakup instability are significantly affected by liquid properties and the addition of surfactants. This study focuses on the atomization of ethanol containing surfactants in the cone-jet to investigate the synergistic effect of surfactant types, concentrations, and surfactant-salt on jet evolution behaviors. The results show that different surfactants have varying effects on jet length and dispersion, and the addition of surfactants and salt ions can transform the atomization morphology of ethanol. The conclusions of this study can contribute to the optimization of physical parameters in electrospray.

Factors that influence the aggregation structure of nanoparticles in nanofluids: A molecular dynamics simulation

Jibang Liao et al.

Summary: This study used molecular dynamics to simulate the aggregation behavior of nanoparticle agglomerates in Cu-Ar nanofluids and found that the initial distance and particle size have an impact on the aggregation structure. When the initial distance exceeds a certain threshold, the nanoparticle agglomerates cannot form reaction-limited aggregates regardless of the particle size; however, when the initial distance is smaller than the threshold, the particle size becomes a key factor in determining the aggregation structure.

Natural convective heat transfer investigation of nanofluids affected by electrical field with periodically changed direction

Yanjun Chen et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the resuspension and natural convective heat transfer of nanofluids under the influence of an electrical field with periodically changed direction. Results show that nanoparticles can be stably resuspended by the periodically changing electrical field, leading to significantly enhanced heat transfer performance compared to the pure base fluid. This enhancement is influenced by factors such as voltage, concentration, and direction switching time. The proposed heat transfer prediction model for nanofluids under these conditions shows acceptable reliability.

The effects of external force and electrical field on the agglomeration of Fe3O4 nanoparticles in electroosmotic flows in microchannels using molecular dynamics simulation

Reza Balali Dehkordi et al.

Summary: The study examines the effects of external electrostatic force and external electrical field on Fe3O4 nanoparticles in a copper microchannel, showing that the external electrical field plays a significant role in the agglomeration process in atomic structures, with an increase in field leading to an increase in the time required for the agglomeration process.

An experimental study on the effect of nanoparticle shape on the dynamics of Leidenfrost droplet impingement

Liju Ulahannan et al.

Summary: Extensive investigations have been conducted on the thermo-hydrodynamics of nanofluid droplets interacting with heated and non-heated flat surfaces, with a focus on the influence of nanoparticle shape on droplet impingement dynamics on heated flat surfaces. The study observed different impact dynamics, Leidenfrost temperatures, residence time, spread factor, and retraction height between nanofluids and base pure fluid. Detailed analyses were carried out for various Weber numbers and surface superheat values, showing significant differences compared to de-ionized water.
