Corrosion studies on multicomponent CoCrFeMnNi(C) thin films in acidic environments

Eirini-Maria Paschalidou et al.

Summary: The corrosion resistances of CoCrFeMnNi magnetron-sputtered thin films with different carbon concentrations were investigated in acidic environments. The results showed that the electrochemical behavior of the films, particularly in the chromium transpassive region, was significantly influenced by the carbon concentration and experimental conditions. At high potentials, the carbon-containing films exhibited better corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid than in sulfuric acid, attributed to a slower carbon oxidation rate in hydrochloric acid, facilitating the formation of a manganese-rich oxide layer.

Enhancing corrosion resistance, hardness, and crack resistance in magnetron sputtered high entropy CoCrFeMnNi coatings by adding carbon

Leon Zendejas Medina et al.

Summary: This study successfully improved the hardness, crack resistance, and corrosion resistance of high entropy thin films through carbon addition as a materials design approach. The addition of carbon significantly increased the hardness and crack resistance of the films, while reducing the corrosion current and passive current.

Tailored Hydrogen-Free Carbon Films by Tuning the sp2/sp3 Configuration

Jong Hun Kim et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the impact of carbon film configuration on its properties, showing that changing the sputtering power can control the sp(2)/sp(3) ratio and influence the friction, adhesion, and electrical conductivity of the films. The findings suggest a promising approach for producing carbon films with tailored properties for various applications, including frictionless protection coatings.
