Effect of biofloc technology on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, proximate composition, and hematological parameters of Asian stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis)

Md Abu Zafar et al.

Summary: The biofloc system significantly promoted the growth, digestive activity, composition, and hematology of Asian stinging catfish, leading to improvements in growth rate, feed utilization, and hematological parameters. This indicates that biofloc could be a promising alternative for sustainable aquaculture production of Asian stinging catfish.

Haematological, serum biochemical and anti-oxidative enzymes responses of sutchi catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) against Aeromonas hydrophila using various carbon sources in biofloc system

Ponpandy Nageswari et al.

Summary: The 90-day experiment studied the response of sutchi catfish fingerlings in the biofloc system with different carbon sources. Finger millet-based biofloc application acted as an immunostimulator, reducing stress and improving hematological and biochemical status of the fish.

Effects of carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C:N) on water quality and growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) in the biofloc system with a salinity of 5parts per thousand

Hai-Hong Huang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C:N) on water quality and shrimp growth performance during the grow-out culture of Litopenaeus vannamei in a biofloc system under a low salinity condition. The results showed that the C:N ratio significantly affected water parameters, but had minimal impact on shrimp growth performance. The optimal C:N range was found to be 18.5-21.0:1.

Effects of different carbon sources on water quality, biofloc quality, and the productivity of Nile tilapia reared in biofloc-based ponds

Ashraf M. Soliman et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of different carbon sources on the water quality, biofloc quality, and growth and productive performance of Nile tilapia in biofloc-based cement ponds. The results showed that adding wheat flour to the ponds was beneficial for water quality, biofloc biomass, and the growth and productivity of Nile tilapia.

Dietary protein requirement of white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) juveniles, reared in inland ground water of medium salinity

Prasanta Jana et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of dietary protein levels on the growth, digestive enzymes, and haemato-biochemical responses of Penaeus vannamei juveniles in inland ground saline water. The results showed that a diet with 400g protein/kg led to the highest growth performance, while higher protein levels resulted in increased proteinase activity and decreased protein efficiency ratio.

The Effect of Stocking Density and Carbon Sources on the Oxidative Status, and Nonspecific Immunity of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Reared under Biofloc Conditions

Ramy M. Shourbela et al.

Summary: The study found that adding molasses as a carbon source in biofloc conditions can improve the immune status and health of Nile tilapia, especially under low stocking density. The comparison between the control group and biofloc group showed better blood indicators in the biofloc group.

Digestive system and growth performance of giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy Lacepede) juveniles in biofloc systems fed with different feed types

Evi Amriawati et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of different aquaculture systems and types of feed on the digestive system and growth performance of Giant gourami juveniles. It was found that feeding a combination of artificial feed and Tubifex worm in a biofloc system improved the protease activity and growth performance of the juveniles.

Supplementation of biofloc in carp (Cyprinus carpio ver. communis) culture as a potential tool of resource management in aquaculture

Shib Kinkar Das et al.

Summary: The study found that supplementation of biofloc in the rearing of common carp can partially replace costly feed and improve fish growth, but cannot fully compensate for the withdrawal of feed. Judicious use of neem leaf extract in biofloc media is recommended as it may cause nitrification inhibition.
