Nafion-based label-free immunosensor as a reliable warning system: The case of AFB1 detection in cattle feed

Rocco Cancelliere et al.

Summary: This study proposes a fast and versatile method for producing label-free immunosensors on Nafion-modified screen-printed platforms. By using Nafion as both an immobilization matrix and electrochemical enhancer, the study investigates the electrochemical characteristics and compares the performance of Nafion-modified and bare SPEs. The Nafion-SPEs are then used to develop a competitive label-free immunoassay for the detection of Aflatoxin B1, showing satisfactory results in terms of limit of detection, linear range, sensitivity, and reproducibility. The study also demonstrates the reliability and feasibility of the proposed method as an early warning system for AFB1 detection in cattle feed, with shorter analysis time compared to conventional techniques.

Expanding the circularity of plastic and biochar materials by developing alternative low environmental footprint sensors

Rocco Cancelliere et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of flexible screen-printing technology and nano/material coating to improve electrode functionalities and manufacture highly sensitive electrochemical sensors. The innovative reuse of post-consumer plastics and biochar as sustainable alternatives for sensor production is proposed. The biochar-multilayer system enhances electron transfer and acts as an absorptive material for the analyte, showing great potential for repurposing end-of-life plastics in the electronics industry and reducing waste.
