Prospects for Aerobic Photocatalytic Nitrogen Fixation

Yu-Hsuan Liu et al.

Summary: The production of decarbonized ammonia through photocatalytic nitrogen fixation has the potential to revolutionize farm-scale fertilizer production. However, the cost of a complete photocatalytic system remains a critical factor. In this study, we found that the air separation unit accounts for a significant portion of the total system cost. Therefore, it is crucial to develop catalysts that can tolerate trace oxygen or operate under aerobic conditions to achieve cost parity with the traditional Haber-Bosch process. Among the various metal-doped titania photocatalysts, vanadium- and ruthenium-doped titania demonstrated consistent performance under aerobic conditions.

Laser-Reduced BiVO4 for Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Mariam Barawi et al.

Summary: This study proposes a laser irradiation method to superficially degrade BiVO4 photoelectrodes and enhance their water oxidation reaction performance. Through a combination of advanced characterization techniques, it was found that the reduction process is localized at the surface of the sample, resulting in effective n-type doping and a shift to more favorable energy band positions for water oxidation. Additionally, changes in sample morphology and improved charge extraction contribute to an increase in photocurrent density.

Regulating MoS2 edge site for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation: A theoretical and experimental study

Biao Hu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the active sites on MoS2 for N-2 adsorption and dissociation are mainly located on Mo rather than S edge, and Mn doping can enhance the exposure of Mo edge sites. Injection of electrons promotes the reduction of N-2, leading to a higher ammonia production rate in Mn-modified MoS2 photocatalysts without sacrificial agent.

Advanced Nanostructured Conjugated Microporous Polymer Application in a Tandem Photoelectrochemical Cell for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Mariam Barawi et al.

Summary: Solar energy conversion through photoelectrochemical cells using organic semiconductors is a popular topic due to the promising optoelectronic properties of these materials. Conjugated polymers have attracted research interest for their interesting light-harvesting properties. Conjugated porous polymers (CPPs) offer greater surface area, photochemical and mechanical stability compared to their linear counterparts, but their synthesis often results in powders unsuitable for thin film preparation. In this study, a synthetic strategy is presented to prepare nanostructures of a CPP for use as a photoelectrode in a photoelectrochemical cell.
