LilrB3 is a putative cell surface receptor of APOE4

Jiayao Zhou et al.

Summary: The isoforms of apolipoprotein E (APOE2, APOE3, and APOE4) have different immunomodulatory effects, and APOE4 interacts specifically with the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor B3 (LilrB3) through its N-terminal domain. The atomic structure reveals how APOE4 and LilrB3 form a hetero-tetrameric complex. APOE4, but not APOE2, activates human microglia cells into a pro-inflammatory state in a LilrB3-dependent manner.

Prediction and Modeling of Neuropsychological Scores in Alzheimer's Disease Using Multimodal Neuroimaging Data and Artificial Neural Networks

Seyed Hani Hojjati et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers aimed to predict neuropsychological scores and investigate the non-linear progression trend of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD). They used multimodal neuroimaging data and a non-linear regression method to predict scores in a large number of subjects. The results showed that certain volumes and PET biomarkers outperformed other neuroimaging features in predicting the scores, and a bimodal approach improved prediction performance in different stages of AD and mild cognitive impairment.

Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals

Aysu Okbay et al.

Summary: In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to investigate the genetic factors associated with educational attainment (EA). The results identified numerous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are significantly correlated with EA. Furthermore, a polygenic predictor (PGI) was found to explain a substantial portion of the variation in EA and contribute to disease risk prediction. Intriguingly, the correlation between mate-pair PGIs suggests additional assortment mechanisms. However, no significant SNPs were identified in separate analyses of dominance deviations and the X-chromosome.
