Photoperiod Control of Plant Growth: Flowering Time Genes Beyond Flowering

Michela Osnato et al.

Summary: Fluctuations in environmental conditions greatly impact plant development, particularly changes in photoperiod. Many developmental processes are affected by the length of light/dark cycles, and they employ similar gene networks for regulation.

Variation in terpenoids in leaves of Artemisia annua grown under different LED spectra resulting in diverse antimalarial activities against Plasmodium falciparum

Darunmas Sankhuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different light spectra on Artemisia annua and found that a specific spectrum promoted the accumulation of useful phytochemicals and increased antimalarial activity. The results provide a strategy to overcome limitations in herbal cultivation and demonstrate the potential of using appropriate light spectra in plant factories.

Floral Induction in the Short-Day Plant Chrysanthemum Under Blue and Red Extended Long-Days

Malleshaiah SharathKumar et al.

Summary: The study showed that different components of the daylight spectrum influence various phases of photoperiodic flowering in chrysanthemum in a time-dependent manner. Smart use of LED-light could potentially lead to more efficient year-round cultivation of chrysanthemum by bypassing the short-day requirement for flowering. However, extending natural solar light during the first 11 hours of the photoperiod with either red or blue sole LED light inhibited flowering in current year-round greenhouse production.
