Phosphoric acid assisted synthesis of fluorescent carbon dots from waste biomass for detection of Cr(VI) in aqueous media

Juri Goswami et al.

Summary: A green and facile method for synthesizing carbon dots (CDs) using lignocellulosic biomass (banana stem) and phosphoric acid has been developed. The CDs were used to construct a fluorescent sensor for detecting Cr(VI). The fluorescence behavior of the CDs was investigated in detail, and their optical and structural properties were determined. The prepared CDs exhibited excellent fluorescence properties and could detect Cr(VI) at low concentrations. They were successfully applied to quantitatively detect Cr(VI) in real water samples.

Hydrothermal-ultrasonic synthesis of CuO nanorods and CuWO4 nanoparticles for catalytic reduction, photocatalysis activity, and antibacterial properties

Yuan Cai et al.

Summary: CuWO4/CuO composites prepared by the hydrothermal method showed larger particle size compared to CuO nanorods. The catalytic activity for 4-nitrophenol reduction was significantly increased using these composites, with a higher reaction rate constant observed. The photocatalytic properties under UV light irradiation and significant antibacterial performance were also demonstrated.

Neha Jatav et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the development of AgI/CuWO4 nanocomposites for photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin and rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. The photocatalysis proceeds by a Z-scheme mechanism, as demonstrated by XPS analysis and active species trapping experiments. Experimental and molecular dynamics studies were combined to arrive at the photocatalysis mechanism.

Bifunctional Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots in g-C3N4/WOx Heterojunction for Enhanced Photocatalytic Water-Splitting Performance

Tong Song et al.

Summary: A novel metal-free all-solid-state z-scheme g-C3N4/NCDs/WOx photocatalyst with enhanced visible and NIR light photocatalytic activity was fabricated using nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) as the electron mediator. The hydrogen evolution rate significantly increased under visible light irradiation, and the apparent quantum efficiency reached 7.58% at 420 nm. The utilization efficiency of NIR light was improved by the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of WOx and the up-converted photoluminescence property of NCDs.

Integration of mixed ligand into a multivariate metal-organic framework for enhanced UV-light photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B

Jun-Cheng Jin et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic activity of a series of UIO-66 modified MOFs materials was evaluated for the degradation of Rhodamine B dye, with UiO-66-NO2/UiO-66-NH2 showing the best performance under UV light irradiation. The main reactive oxygen species generated during photocatalysis was found to be O-2(center dot-) radical anion. LC-MS experiments and band gap calculations confirmed the effectiveness of the strategy in enhancing photocatalytic efficiency for the degradation process.
