Novel Ag3PO4 modified tubular carbon nitride with visible-light-driven peroxymonosulfate activation: A wide pH tolerance and reaction mechanism

Jun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Ag3PO4 modified tubular porous carbon nitride (Ag3PO4@TPCN12) photocatalyst was fabricated and its photocatalytic activity for organic compound degradation was evaluated under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the photocatalyst exhibited excellent degradation performance in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS), with a wide pH tolerance. Various reactive species were identified as the main contributors to the degradation process. This study has significant implications for the degradation of organic compounds in water.

New insight into the mechanism of peroxymonosulfate activation by Fe3S4: Radical and non-radical oxidation

Jun Li et al.

Summary: The degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) through the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation by flower-like Fe3S4 was investigated. The flower-like Fe3S4 showed the best performance with the highest reaction stoichiometric efficiency. Non-radical singlet oxygen was found to participate in the catalytic oxidation of compounds in addition to the typical sulfate radical and hydroxyl radical.

Effective separation and recovery of valuable metals from waste Ni-based batteries: A comprehensive review

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: With the rapid growth of the battery industry and the corresponding potential environmental pollution, recycling waste nickel-based batteries has become essential. This review summarizes the sources and characteristics of valuable metals in these batteries and compares and discusses various treatment processes, such as acid leaching, bio-leaching, and pyrometallurgy. The challenges faced by different pretreatment and recovery processes are highlighted, and a comprehensive treatment method combining hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy processes is proposed. The properties of valuable metals products obtained by different treatment processes are discussed, providing useful advice for the completely harmless treatment of waste nickel-based batteries.

Effect of Metal Ions on Oxidation of Micropollutants by Ferrate(VI): Enhancing Role of FeIV Species

Xianbing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the oxidation of recalcitrant micropollutants by combining Fe-VI and Fe(III), finding that the addition of Fe(III) enhances the oxidation process. Fe-IV was identified as the main species contributing to the increase in ATL removal, with natural organic matter inhibiting the removal of pollutants.

Selective extraction of uranium from seawater with biofouling-resistant polymeric peptide

Yihui Yuan et al.

Summary: Nuclear power could still be a reliable and carbon-free energy source in the near term, with the oceans containing 1,000 times more uranium reserves than terrestrial resources. However, the development of uranium extraction technology from seawater faces challenges due to the low concentration of uranium and the presence of other metal ions and microorganisms.

Ultra-fast leaching of critical metals from spent lithium-ion batteries cathode materials achieved by the synergy-coordination mechanism

Lei Xing et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved ultra-fast leaching of spent cathode materials using a mixture of hydrochloric acid and (L)-ascorbic acid, showing faster kinetics and higher leaching volume compared to aqua regia. Four hypothetical mechanisms were proposed to interpret the reaction mechanisms, with synergy coordination considered as the most reasonable mechanism for the leaching of cathode materials. Three scenarios with different leaching systems and conditions were compared to identify the key parameters determining the economics of the leaching process.

Acid recovering and iron recycling from pickling waste acid by extraction and spray pyrolysis techniques

Ya Gao et al.

Summary: This study proposed a new method to recover acid and iron from pickling waste acid through extraction and pyrolysis. Experimental results showed that using CYC extractant at an O/A ratio of 2:1 yielded the best results. A feasible technological process was eventually put forward to recycle all chemicals and achieve zero emission in the process.
