Employing cationic kraft lignin as electrolyte additive to enhance the electrochemical performance of rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion battery

Jingliang Xu et al.

Summary: This study uses abundant and low-cost kraft lignin to synthesize quaternized lignin (QL(80)) as an electrolyte additive to improve the performance of zinc-ion batteries. The electrolyte with 1% QL(80) shows the least corrosion on the zinc electrode and promotes homogeneous zinc deposition. The ReZMB battery with 1% QL(80) exhibits the highest open-circuit voltage and optimal rate capability.

Dual-functional lignin-based hydrogels for sustained release of agrochemicals and heavy metal ion complexation

Ling Zheng et al.

Summary: An effective way to improve the efficiency of agrochemicals and enhance crop yield and quality is through slow or sustained release, which is beneficial for environmental protection. This study developed lignin-based dual-functional hydrogels containing conjugated agrochemicals and heavy metal ligands through free-radical copolymerization. The release of the agrochemicals could be controlled by adjusting the hydrogel composition, and the hydrogels also acted as adsorbents for heavy metal ions, improving soil remediation and preventing toxic metal absorption by plant roots.

Employing cationic kraft lignin as electrolyte additive to enhance the electrochemical performance of rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion battery

Jingliang Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of quaternized lignin (QL(80)) as an electrolyte additive for improving the electrochemical performance of aqueous zinc-ion batteries. The electrolyte containing 1 wt% of QL(80) shows the lowest corrosion on the zinc anode and promotes uniform zinc deposition. The battery using 1% QL(80) exhibits the highest open-circuit voltage and optimal rate capability, while the zinc symmetric battery shows an extended lifespan.

Effects of a poly(hydroxyalkanoate) elastomer and kraft pulp fibres on biocomposite properties and three-dimensional (3D) printability of filaments for fused deposition modelling

Sandra Rodriguez-Fabia et al.

Summary: This study prepared biocomposites of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(hydroxyalkanoate) (PHA), and kraft pulp fibres, and evaluated the mechanical and thermal properties of the materials. The results showed that the addition of kraft pulp fibres can enhance the strength and modulus of the materials, and unbleached pulp fibres can also be used in the preparation of biocomposites with good printing properties.

Molecular Weight Distribution and Dissolution Behavior of Lignin in Alkaline Solutions

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics and recondensation mechanism of lignin during the dissolution process in an alkaline hydrothermal system. The results demonstrated that lignin fragments dissolved due to ether bond fracturing by OH- attacking the side chain positions, and recondensed into more stable lignin with higher molecular weight.
