Power divergence approach for one-shot device testing under competing risks

N. Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes robust estimators and tests for one-shot devices under competing risks, and demonstrates their robustness through extensive simulation studies. A data-driven procedure is also proposed for selecting the optimal estimator and applied to a survival analysis example.

Robust inference for nondestructive one-shot device testing under step-stress model with exponential lifetimes

Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: One-shot devices analysis studies extreme cases of interval censoring where failure time is only known to be before or after the test time. Some nondestructive one-shot devices can provide extra information for inference if they continue within the experiment after testing. Accelerated life tests (ALTs) with varying and higher stress levels are used to rapidly estimate their reliability. This paper develops robust estimators and test statistics based on density power divergence (DPD) for testing linear null hypothesis for nondestructive one-shot devices under step-stress ALTs with exponential lifetime distribution.

Hybrid flow-shop manufacturing network reliability optimization using genetic algorithm and absorbing Markov chain

Cheng-Ta Yeh et al.

Summary: In this study, a reliable hybrid flow-shop manufacturing system (HFSMS) is constructed using a machine configuration strategy that incorporates reworking and scrapping actions based on yield rates. The machine configuration determines the machine suppliers and quantities for each production stage, which can impact system stability. This stochastic-flow network is evaluated using a genetic algorithm (GA) and absorbing Markov chain (AMC) to optimize the configuration with maximum network reliability. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed AMC and GA-based approach outperforms four popular meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of computational efficiency and finding the exact optimal solution.

EM-based likelihood inference for one-shot device test data under log-normal lifetimes and the optimal design of a CSALT plan

Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the application of the EM algorithm for likelihood estimation based on lognormal lifetime distribution in one-shot device testing, and explores the design of optimal CSALTs under this setup with budget constraints. A simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the developed inference methods, and real-life data are analyzed for illustrative purposes.

A novel genetic algorithm based system for the scheduling of medical treatments

Matthew Squires et al.

Summary: Manual scheduling of medical treatment in health centres is a complex and time-consuming task. This study presents a novel genetic algorithm, LSWT-GA, for optimizing the operational efficiency of a medical centre through efficient appointment scheduling. The algorithm outperforms other algorithms and shows promising results in minimizing makespan.

Exact likelihood ratio and Wald tests for the balanced joint progressive censoring scheme

Shuvashree Mondal et al.

Summary: The authors introduced the concept of balanced joint progressive censoring and developed hypothesis testing tools for the BJPC scheme, including exact likelihood ratio tests and discussions on the Wald test for joint life testing experiments. The study also determined the optimal censoring scheme based on the power of proposed tests, using metaheuristic variable neighborhood algorithm for optimization tasks.

On the 'optimal' density power divergence tuning parameter

Sancharee Basak et al.

Summary: The density power divergence is a useful tool in minimum distance inference, providing stable choices for model fitting and analysis under data contamination. Choosing the optimal value of the tuning parameter alpha to balance model efficiency and stability against data contamination is a major challenge.

Robustness of Minimum Density Power Divergence Estimators and Wald-type test statistics in loglinear models with multinomial sampling

Aida Calvino et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new family of estimators, MDPDE, as a robust generalization of MLE for loglinear models using the DPD measure. Confidence intervals and robust Wald-type test statistics are developed based on these estimators. The robust properties of MDPDE and Wald-type tests are theoretically studied through influence function analysis, with simulation study confirming the validity of the results.
