A review on the development and advancement of Ta2O5 as a promising photocatalyst

V Gurylev

Summary: Ta2O5 is a promising alternative to TiO2 in photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical processes due to its higher conduction band position. It can improve kinetics for reduction reactions, increase selectivity for CO2 conversion, and generate additional radical species for efficient degradation of organic pollutants. However, its wide band gap, inability to absorb visible light, poor charge transport, and low conductivity limit its performance. Therefore, understanding its characteristics and strategies to enhance its performance are crucial.

Niobium and tantalum octahedral Halides: Vibrational properties and Intra-Cluster interactions

Maxim Shamshurin et al.

Summary: IR and Raman spectroscopies are important for characterizing the structures and spectroscopic properties of Nb and Ta octahedral halide clusters and the polymeric Ta6I14. Quantum chemical calculations and analyses of intra-cluster interactions were performed to understand the relationship between the structural and spectroscopic data, particularly the main vibrational normal modes.

A review on functional nanoarchitectonics nanocomposites based on octahedral metal atom clusters (Nb6, Mo6, Ta6, W6, Re6): inorganic 0D and 2D powders and films

Ngan T. K. Nguyen et al.

Summary: This review presents various functional nanoarchitectonic nanocomposites based on molecular octahedral metal atom clusters (Nb-6, Mo-6, Ta-6, W-6, Re-6). It discusses powder and film nanocomposites with different morphologies, as well as film matrices from organic polymers to inorganic layered oxides. The review demonstrates the high potential and synergetic effects of these nanocomposites in biotechnology, photovoltaic, solar control, catalytic, photonic, and sensor applications. Additionally, it provides an understanding of the characterization and processing techniques of nanocomposites.

Nanostructured Hybrids Based on Tantalum Bromide Octahedral Clusters and Graphene Oxide for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Jhon Sebastian Hernandez et al.

Summary: The generation of hydrogen using sunlight has become an essential energy alternative for decarbonization. In this study, a simple synthesis method was developed to immobilize hydroxy groups onto graphene oxide nanosheets, forming nanohybrids that showed enhanced photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production compared to their precursors, without the need for precious metals.

Revisiting properties of edge-bridged bromide tantalum clusters in the solid-state, in solution and vice versa: an intertwined experimental and modelling approach

Maxence Wilmet et al.

Summary: Edge-bridged halide tantalum clusters with the {Ta6Br12}(4+) core have been extensively studied in both solution and solid-state, but the correlations between compositions, symmetry, electronic structures, redox states, and properties are not well established. By investigating the behavior of the cluster unit in terms of oxidation properties and chemical modifications, new insights were gained on how the cluster units respond to changes in their environment. This study provides new information on the transition from solid-state to solutions and vice versa, offering perspectives on optimizing protocols for Ta-6 cluster-based materials design.
