In situ formation of alginic acid-gold nanohybrids for application in cancer photothermal therapy

Andre Q. Figueiredo et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel and simpler methodology for producing gold-polymer hybrid structures for cancer photothermal therapy applications. The Au-Alg-NH nanohybrids were synthesized through a straightforward and faster process, using ascorbic acid to promote the in situ reduction and nucleation of gold on a crosslinked alginic acid polymeric matrix. This synthesis process avoids the use of toxic stability agents and the laborious washing and purification steps commonly used in the production of gold-based nanoparticles.

The Applications of Gold Nanoparticles in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Cancer

Zhijing Yang et al.

Summary: Gastrointestinal cancer remains a significant health issue with high morbidity and mortality rates in China. The deep location and lack of obvious early symptoms make it difficult to diagnose and cure at an advanced stage. The use of gold nanoparticles as nanocarriers shows promise in delivering drugs and nucleic acids to cancer cells and tissues, thereby influencing the fate of cancer. Gold nanoparticles can also serve as a safe and effective visualization agent, allowing for accurate tracking and indication of cancer location and boundaries, opening up new possibilities for treatment and diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancer.
