Failure of physiological transformation and spiral artery atherosis: their roles in preeclampsia

Anne Cathrine Staff et al.

Summary: Physiological transformation and remodeling of uteroplacental spiral arteries play a key role in successful placentation and normal placental function. Poor remodeling is associated with early-onset preeclampsia and other major obstetrical syndromes. Acute atherosis, a foam cell lesion, is linked to poor remodeling and may be triggered by inflammatory stimulation. Understanding this uteroplacental interface is crucial for understanding the pathophysiology of preeclampsia and its short- and long-term effects on pregnancy.

Uncovering serum placental-related non-coding RNAs as possible biomarkers of preeclampsia risk, onset and severity revealed MALAT-1, miR-363 and miR-17

Samy A. Abdelazim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore serum miR-17, miR-363, MALAT-1, and HOTAIR as potential biomarkers of preeclampsia (PE) risk, onset, and severity. The results showed that miR-17, miR-363, and MALAT-1 could be new biomarkers for PE diagnosis, and miR-363 may be associated with early-onset PE, while downregulation of MALAT-1 correlates with PE severity.

Clinical tools and biomarkers to predict preeclampsia

Teresa M. MacDonald et al.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific disease that has a significant impact on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Currently, there are limited options for predicting and diagnosing preeclampsia, and further research is needed to identify effective tests and biomarkers.

A lncRNA TCL6-miR-155 Interaction Regulates the Src-Akt-EMT Network to Mediate Kidney Cancer Progression and Metastasis

Priyanka Kulkarni et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the interaction between lncTCL6 and miR-155 plays a crucial role in regulating the Src-Akt-EMT network in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, impacting disease progression and metastasis. Patients with higher lncTCL6 expression and lower miR-155 expression have a better survival probability, offering a promising therapeutic target for renal cancer treatment.

Urinary Exosomal microRNA-21 as a Marker for Scrub Typhus-Associated Acute Kidney Injury

Chi Young Yun et al.

Summary: Urinary exosomal miRNA-21 could serve as a surrogate marker for scrub typhus-associated AKI diagnosis. AKI patients had higher total leukocyte count and urinary exosomal miRNA-21 levels compared to non-AKI patients. Additionally, miRNA-21 levels correlated directly with total leukocyte counts and inversely with estimated glomerular filtration rate.

Summary: MicroRNAs play crucial roles in PE, with upregulation of miR-21-5p and miR-155-5p in preeclamptic pregnancies, especially in severe and late-onset PE subgroups, which could potentially serve as biomarkers for PE detection.

LncRNA CASC2 inhibits lung adenocarcinoma progression through forming feedback loop with miR-21/p53 axis

Zhi-Hui Wu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CASC2 regulates cell proliferation and apoptosis in LUAD by modulating the expression of miR-21 and p53. P53 was identified as an upstream transcription factor of CASC2, activating its transcription. These findings offer a new insight into the pathological mechanisms of LUAD.
