Characteristics and risk factors of facial pressure injuries in acute inpatients using noninvasive positive pressure ventilation: A retrospective case control study

Yu-Huei Lin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the characteristics and risk factors of facial pressure injuries in patients using noninvasive positive pressure ventilation. The results showed that patients with longer duration of non-invasive ventilation usage, longer hospital stay, lower Braden scale scores, and lower albumin levels were more likely to develop facial pressure injuries. Therefore, monitoring the duration of device usage, Braden scale scores, and albumin levels should be emphasized to reduce the occurrence of facial pressure injuries in acute inpatients treated with non-invasive ventilation.

Summary: The study found that risk factors for pressure injury vary among different types of intensive care admissions, with admission type being a key differentiating factor. Patients admitted for medical reasons, elective surgery, and emergency surgery have distinct prediction models for pressure injury.

Incidence, characteristics and risk factors of medical device-related pressure injuries: An observational cohort study

Oznur Erbay Dalli et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the risk of medical device-related pressure injuries (MDRPIs) in critically ill adults. The incidence of MDRPIs is high and is associated with several factors. It is critical that MDRPIs are taken seriously by all members of the healthcare team, especially nurses, and that protocols should be established for improvements.

Skin Physiology and its Microbiome as Factors Associated with the Recurrence of Pressure Injuries

Kana Shibata et al.

Summary: This study investigates factors associated with recurrent pressure injuries (RPIs) by focusing on skin physiology and microbiome after injury healing. It found that lower skin hydration and the presence of Staphylococcus species may be potential biomarkers or intervention points for predicting and preventing RPIs.

The prevalence and prevention of pressure ulcers: A multicenter study of nine nursing homes in eastern China

Min Wei et al.

Summary: This study assessed the prevalence and related factors of pressure ulcers in nursing homes in eastern China, finding associations between PU development and eating mode, bed-bound status, and Braden score. The prevalence of PUs in this study was similar to international studies, but prevention and treatment measures in nursing homes were insufficient, and there was a lack of measures to prevent PU development at home.
