Temporomandibular disorders and neck pain in primary headache patients: a retrospective machine learning study

Martina Ferrillo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and neck pain in patients with primary headaches. The results showed that migraine patients reported higher TMD and neck pain. Machine learning analysis demonstrated that TMD was correlated to migraine, while neck pain was correlated to tension-type headache (TTH) or migraine.

Effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching in relieving pain and balancing knee loading during stepping over obstacles among older adults with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled trial

Bo Gao et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of an 8-week PNF stretching on pain relief and knee loading balance in older people with knee osteoarthritis, as well as improvements in gait patterns. Thirty-two older adults with KOA were randomly assigned into PNF or control groups. Results showed significant improvements in pain scores, knee abduction moment, and crossing velocity during stepping over obstacles in the PNF group compared to the control group after 8 weeks of intervention. An 8-week PNF stretching can effectively relieve pain, balance knee loading, and improve gait patterns in older people with knee osteoarthritis.

Summary: This narrative review summarizes the current evidence on the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors of osteoarthritis (OA) at the person-level and joint-level. The review highlights the high prevalence of OA worldwide, with older individuals, women, certain racial and ethnic groups, and individuals with lower socioeconomic status being more affected. Obesity and joint injury are identified as modifiable risk factors with the strongest evidence. Other emerging topics with potential associations with OA risk or progression include specific vitamins and diets, high blood pressure, genetic factors, metformin use, bone mineral density, abnormal joint shape and malalignment, and lower muscle strength/quality. The review also emphasizes the heterogeneity of OA and the importance of understanding and defining OA phenotypes. Overall, OA is a prevalent condition with significant global impacts on health outcomes, necessitating efforts to mitigate obesity and joint injury risks.
