Phosphorus doping of graphene for conductometric room temperature ammonia sensing

Quanfu Li et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the ammonia (NH3)-sensing performance of phosphorus-doped graphene sensors. Stable phosphorus doping of graphene was achieved by using phosphorus pentoxide as the phosphorus source through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) at 480 oC. The results showed that phosphorus-doped graphene increased the NH3 response by 2.4 times on average, shortened the response (recovery) time by 70.6% (73.4%) on average, and had a theoretical limit of detection (LOD) of 68.76 ppb. The phosphorus-doped graphene sensor also exhibited excellent repeatability, stability, and ultra-high selectivity to NH3.

Fractal-like kinetics for adsorption of Pb (II) on graphene oxide/hydrous zirconium oxide/crosslinked starch bio-composite: Application of Taguchi approach for optimization

Nafisur Rahman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the decontamination of Pb (II) from aqueous environment using a graphene oxide/ hydrous zirconium oxide/crosslinked starch bio-composite (GZS-BC). The optimization of Pb (II) sorption was conducted using the Taguchi method, and the best conditions resulted in a maximum removal efficiency of 98.50% at pH 6. The Freundlich isotherm model was found to be the best fit with high R2 values and low v2 and APE values. The kinetic data suggested a heterogeneous surface of GZS-BC with multiple sorption sites, and the thermodynamic study indicated that both physisorption and chemisorption played a role in the uptake of Pb (II).

Hydrothermal fabrication of phytic acid decorated chitosan-graphene oxide composites for efficient and selective adsorption of uranium (VI)

Hongtao Xia et al.

Summary: An innovative chitosan/graphene oxide composite containing phytic acid (PCG) was synthesized for the removal of uranium (VI) from aqueous solutions. PCG possessed flaky surface porous structure, good thermal stability, and strong chelating ability to uranium (VI). The adsorption process of PCG followed the Langmuir isothermal and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 325.56 mg/g at pH 5.0. PCG exhibited higher adsorption selectivity due to the strong chelating of its hydroxyl and phosphate groups with uranium (VI). With its easy synthesis, solid-liquid separation, biocompatibility, and negligible toxicity, PCG can effectively recover uranium (VI) from wastewater.

Guilherme L. Dotto et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recovery of Gd3+ from real leachate of phosphogypsum using natural bentonite clay. The adsorption study revealed that the clay has typical bentonite characteristics and can effectively adsorb Gd3+. The kinetics and thermodynamics of the adsorption process were analyzed, and it was found that the Langmuir model and Avrami fractional order model were suitable for describing the adsorption isotherms and kinetic data, respectively. The study also showed that citric acid was an efficient desorbing agent for Gd3+ from the bentonite, and the clay could selectively recover Gd3+ from the real leachate of phosphogypsum.
