Hypervelocity penetration behavior and fireball radiation characteristics of tungsten-zirconium reactive projectile

Hai Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hypervelocity penetration behavior of W/Zr reactive projectiles and the radiation characteristics of fireballs. It is found that high-density and high-strength tungsten-zirconium alloy enhances the damage ability in hypervelocity impacts. Additionally, the ambient gas pressure and projectile impact velocity have an impact on the combustion characteristics of the fireball.

Hongbo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, laboratory tests and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the foreign object damage (FOD) in aeroengine blades. The results showed severe material loss and residual stress induced by the impact of foreign objects. Furthermore, the influence of impact velocity on FOD and the modal properties of damaged blades were analyzed.

Foreign object damage characteristics and their effects on high cycle fatigue property of Ni-based superalloy GH4169

Xu Jia et al.

Summary: This study conducted high-speed ballistic impact tests and fatigue tests on GH4169 alloy samples to investigate the effect of FOD depth on fatigue strength. It was found that as the FOD depth increases, the damage length, material losses, and stress concentration coefficient also increase, resulting in a reduction in fatigue strength. The study also showed that the Kitagawa-Takahashi diagram can be used as a basic model for the design of FOD tolerance.

A simplified Johnson-Cook model of TC4T for aeroengine foreign object damage prediction

Hongbo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic mechanical properties of a new titanium alloy TC4T were investigated and a constitutive model was established. The model was validated through numerical simulations and experimental results. Additionally, FOD tests were conducted using an air gun and compared with numerical predictions, showing good agreement. Finally, the proposed constitutive model was used to predict and evaluate FOD in an aeroengine fan blade, with results indicating that initial stress had minimal influence on FOD profiles while impact position had a significant effect.

Penetration dynamics of steel spheres into a ballistic gelatin: Experiments, nondimensional analysis, and finite element modeling

S. J. Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigates the penetration dynamics of spherical steel projectiles with different diameters into ballistic gelatin at different incident velocities. A power-law relation is found between the maximum penetration depth and projectile kinetic energy at high incident velocities, while a generalized relation is established for low, intermediate, and high-speed penetration. The drag force of the projectile is analyzed to explain the relation between projectile acceleration and velocity. A calibrated finite element model is able to reproduce the experimental observations accurately.

Experimental and analytical studies on impact behaviours of a steel-concrete-steel sandwich beam with novel interlocked angle connectors

Yonghui Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the dynamic responses of steel-concrete-steel sandwich beams with novel interlocked angle connectors under low-velocity impact. Impact tests were conducted, and varying parameters were considered. The study found different failure modes and local buckling phenomena in the tests. A strain rate effect analytical model was proposed to predict the impact responses of the sandwich beams.

Effect of the notched foreign object damage depth on the HCF strength of titanium alloy TC11

Xu Jia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of different incident foreign object damage (FOD) depths on the high-cycle fatigue (HCF) performance of TC11 titanium alloy specimens. Results show that increasing damage depth leads to higher stress concentration factors, greater material losses, and decreased fatigue strength. The study provides useful insight for assessing the notchtype FOD degree of TC11 titanium alloy leading edge blades.

Prediction of high-cycle fatigue strength in a Ti-17 alloy blade after foreign object damage

Zhenhua Zhao et al.

Summary: FOD tests and HCF tests were conducted for Ti-17 titanium alloy simulation blades, revealing that different types of damage notches can affect HCF strength. The FOD and fatigue properties were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. The fatigue strength of deflection-type specimens was found to be lower than that of semicircular-type specimens.

Experimental characterization and numerical modeling on the external impacting of high-speed railway axle EA4T steel

Xin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impacting responses of railway axles induced by foreign object damage (FOD) using finite element modeling with the Johnson-Cook constitutive law and failure model. Material model parameters of EA4T alloy steel were determined for validation, showing a positive correlation between defect dimensions, residual stress, and assumed running speed of railway vehicles. The research highlights the importance of considering external impacts on modern railway axles in order to prevent fatigue crack initiation and failure accidents.
