Noise-induced phase error comparison in multi-frequency phase-shifting profilometry based on few fringes

Jianhua Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces four phase extraction algorithms based on few fringes for fringe projection profilometry (FPP). The phase extraction accuracy and efficiency are analyzed and evaluated through theoretical analysis and experiments. The results show that the wrapped phase error variance is inversely proportional to the number of phase-shifting steps, and the phase unwrapping reliability is proportional to the wrapped phase accuracy and inversely proportional to the frequency ratio between fringe sequences. Compared with the existing four standard multi-frequency phase-shifting methods, the four non-standard methods proposed in this paper improve the measurement efficiency by 16.7%, 37.5%, 22.2% and 41.7%, respectively, but with decreased phase unwrapping reliability. The balance between phase extraction accuracy and efficiency needs to be determined according to the actual application.

A new method for high dynamic range 3D measurement combining adaptive fringe projection and original-inverse fringe projection

Jianhua Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new scheme combining the original and inverse adaptive fringe projection method (OIAFPM) with AFPM, called OIAFPM. Experiments confirm that the 3D measurement employing OIAFPM is much better than that employing AFPM and OIFPM, and the measurement efficiency employing OIAFPM is also higher than that employing MEM.

A RANSAC based phase noise filtering method for the camera-projector calibration system

Li Wenjie et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a random sample consensus (RANSAC) based plane fitting method to filter the phase noise in camera-projector calibration system. By excluding points with noise, the accuracy of plane fitting is improved. The proposed method is applicable to various two-dimensional calibration patterns, enhancing the flexibility of camera-projector system calibration.

Accurate and dynamic 3D shape measurement with digital image correlation-assisted phase shifting

Pengyu Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for accurate and dynamic 3D shape measurements using only four projected patterns, including three-step phase-shifting patterns and one speckle pattern. By utilizing digital image correlation and multi-view geometry principles, the absolute phase can be reliably recovered without requiring any embedded features or pre-defined information. The proposed method achieves high-speed and accurate 3D shape measurements with an accuracy of 10.64 μm, outperforming traditional methods and providing guidance for 3D profilometry and measurement engineering.

A new phase to height model in fringe projection profilometry by considering radial distortion of camera lens

Jong-Chol Kang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel phase to height model with 9 coefficients, along with a new method to remove radial distortion of camera lens by approximating the total lens distortion model to a 5th-order equation. The proposed method proves to be effective and accurate in three-dimensional shape measurements, enhancing the reliability of height information captured from fringe patterns.
