Interpretation of change scores for the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25: the minimally important difference

Jennifer M. Burr et al.

Summary: Estimating the minimally important difference in change in VFQ-25 scores using various methods can aid in interpretation of the scores. In the context of early glaucoma-related visual disability, a change score of around six points on the VFQ-25 is likely important to patients, further confirmatory research is needed. Comparisons between changes in patient-reported outcome measure scores and a global measure of perceived change in patients are necessary.

The NEI VFQ-25C: Calibrating Items in the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25 to Enable Comparison of OutcomeMeasures

Judith E. Goldstein et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the usability of the NEI VFQ-25 by enabling measurement estimation on an invariant scale and facilitating comparisons between patients and across studies. Through the use of calibrated item measures and rating category thresholds, researchers and clinicians can estimate visual, socioemotional, and combined measures for individual patients using the NEI VFQ-25.
