Summary: Entrepreneurship research often overlooks the impact of racial inequality on organizational theories. By analyzing over 100 articles on race and entrepreneurship, we found that minority entrepreneurs still face disadvantages despite support, and highlighted the theme of racial agency from marginalized racial positions. We argue that considering race in entrepreneurship research is essential to understand the structural underpinnings of racial disadvantage and view entrepreneurship as a mechanism for racial agency.

Summary: Peruvian immigrants in Southern California face a complex context of reception, with both xenophobic attitudes towards Latinxs and positive discourses on immigration. Simultaneously, the popularity of Peruvian cuisine in California creates favorable opportunities for Peruvian immigrant entrepreneurs in the food industry. This article explores how these entrepreneurs use the positive image of Peruvian gastronomy to challenge stereotypes and negotiate their position within racial and ethnic hierarchies.

A distinct integration path? Latino economic elites in Los Angeles growing the Latino middle class

Summary: This research examines the philanthropic activities of Latino economic elites in Los Angeles, specifically focusing on their contributions to ethnic-centric organizations and programs that aim to alleviate socioeconomic inequalities. Through in-depth interviews, the study explores the educational structures created by these elites to promote the mobility of Latino youth. The research compares three manifestations of philanthropy: the establishment of Latino scholarship funds, the creation of ethnic-centric charter schools in low-income Latino neighborhoods, and the development of Latino youth leadership programs involving college students from top universities. These initiatives offer a distinct path to integration through education, challenging assimilation theory and the minority culture of mobility framework. However, the exclusive focus on education may reinforce the elites' image and benefit those who align with their values.
