The role of promoters in metallic nickel catalysts used for green diesel production: A critical review

Sotiris Lycourghiotis et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the important contributions of metals and metal oxides as promoters in the production of green diesel using reduced nickel catalysts. The promotion effect includes accelerating green diesel production, shifting the reaction network to the dehydration pathway, reducing C-C hydrogenolysis and fragmentation of triglyceride side chains, and decreasing methanation. The promoting action is achieved through various mechanisms such as increasing the active surface of nickel, forming alloys, intermetallic compounds, and mixed oxides, as well as the synergy between nickel or Ni-Me hydrogenation sites and oxygen vacancies of the second metal oxide. The contribution of each mechanism depends on the type of promoter used.

Investigation on micro-mechanism of palm oil as natural ester insulating oil for overheating thermal fault analysis of transformers

Hanbo Zheng et al.

Summary: This study simulated the pyrolysis process of palm oil and found that the number of hydrogen bonds gradually increased with the increase of pyrolysis time and temperature, which revealed the reasons behind the prolonged lifespan of insulating paper immersed with natural esters and the slow reduction of breakdown voltage in actual experiments.

Synthesis and characterization of nanosheet NiMoO4 powder as a highly efficient and reusable catalyst for environmental remediation

T. Aloui et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and eco-friendly co-precipitation method was used to synthesize nickel molybdate nanoparticles. The synthesized α-NiMoO4 nanosheets exhibited strong photocatalytic degradation ability for hazardous pollutants, even under visible-light illumination and in the dark. Additionally, the photocatalyst remained efficient after successive photocatalytic cycles. These findings are significant for environmental applications, particularly for the photodegradation of harmful pollutants.

Thermal behaviour, kinetics and mechanisms of CO2 interactions with graphene: An atomic scale reactive molecular dynamic study

Kejiang Li et al.

Summary: The atomic scale understanding of gasification interactions between graphene and CO2 is limited. Reactive force field molecular dynamics simulation studies showed non-linear gasification kinetics with abnormal thermal behavior in the intermediate temperature range. The three-stage reaction process involved defect formation, carbon chain breaking, and adsorption of CO2 on active carbon sites to enhance gasification. The presence of a monovacancy promoted reaction kinetics only at relatively low temperatures.

Investigation on pyrolysis mechanism of palm olein and the effect of moisture on its pyrolysis

Hanbo Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the pyrolysis of palm olein under thermal stress and the influence of moisture on the pyrolysis mechanism using molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that at high temperatures, palm olein undergoes two different pyrolysis pathways, with C2H4 and CO2 as the main products. Furthermore, the presence of moisture accelerates the pyrolysis processes of palm olein by increasing the content of hydrions in the system.

Study on the Formation Mechanism of the Pyrolysis Products of Lignite at Different Temperatures Based on ReaxFF-MD

Xin He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the pyrolysis mechanism of DH lignite using experimental and simulation methods, revealing the microscopic mechanism of lignite pyrolysis. The temperature range of 110-500 K in experiments corresponds to 1400-2400 K in simulation, with CO2 and C2H4 identified as the main gas products. The formation of CO2 is mainly attributed to carboxyl and ester groups, while C2H4 is derived from the decomposition of long-chain aliphatic hydrocarbons.

From NiMoO4 to γ-NiOOH: Detecting the Active Catalyst Phase by Time Resolved in Situ and Operando Raman Spectroscopy

Robin N. Durr et al.

Summary: This study investigates NiMoO4 as a catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction, showing its phase transformation under applied bias and the leaching of molybdenum from the catalyst. Molybdenum leaching increases the number of active sites on the catalyst, leading to higher current densities. Different NiMoO4 nanostructures influence the stability of the catalyst in alkaline media.
