Beer-derived nitrogen, phosphorus co-doped carbon quantum dots: Highly selective on-off-on fluorescent probes for the detection of ascorbic acid in fruits

Summary: A rapid, facile and ultrasensitive fluorescence sensing system based on beer-derived N, P-CQDs was developed for the detection of AA in fruits. The N, P-CQDs exhibited a high quantum yield and showed fluorescence at a maximum emission wavelength of 450 nm. They also served as an efficient sensor for ultrasensitive Fe3+-detection and displayed high sensitivity and selectivity for AA detection. The MTT test confirmed the low toxicity of N, P-CQDs, making them a fast, accurate, and less toxic method for testing AA in the food analysis fields.

Lanthanum-doped carbon quantum dots (La-CQDs) for detection of Fe3+ in colorimetric test paper and information anti-counterfeiting

Summary: A novel lanthanum-doped carbon quantum dots (La-CQDs) fluorescence probe was developed for ion detection of Fe3+ based on the fluorescence quenching principle. La-CQDs with a fluorescence quantum yield of 29.93% was prepared in ethanol solution using ammonium citrate as the carbon source and lanthanum nitrate as the dopant. The method showed good linear relationship and a low limit of detection for Fe3+ detection.

Summary: This study designed a sustainable route for the preparation of graphene composites by using lemon juice. The composites, formed by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and N-/S-doped CQDs, showed unusual battery behavior due to the presence of functional groups within the graphitic network. S-doped CQDs exhibited high capacitance retention and good stability after 10,000 cycles. The supercapacitor constructed with S-doped CQDs showed high specific capacity, energy, and power densities.

Tiopronin protected gold-silver bimetallic nanoclusters for sequential detection of Fe3+ and ascorbic acid in serum

Summary: Tiopronin-protected gold-silver bimetallic nanoclusters were successfully synthesized and utilized as a fluorescent probe for sequential detection of Fe3+ and ascorbic acid. The fluorescence of the nanoclusters was quenched by Fe3+ ions, but could be sensitively turned on again by the addition of ascorbic acid due to the reduction effect on Fe3+. The method showed detection limits of 150 nM (Fe3+) and 60 nM (AA) and was successfully applied to detect Fe3+ and AA in human serum samples.

Graphene oxide-assisted synthesis of N, S Co-doped carbon quantum dots for fluorescence detection of multiple heavy metal ions

In this study, a novel strategy for determining the total content of heavy metal ions in water using fluorescence spectroscopy was developed. Bridging between NiAl-LDH and g-C3N4 by using carbon quantum dots for highly enhanced photoreduction of CO2 into CO

Summary: The treble NiAl-LDH/g-C3N4/carbon quantum dots (LDH/CN/CQDs) photocatalysts were prepared for the photoreduction of CO2 to CO. CQDs in the LDH/CN/CQDs acted as efficient charge recombination inhibitors and unhindered electronic bridges, promoting charge transfer and ultraviolet-visible irradiation respondence. The LDH/CN/CQDs-6 sample exhibited the highest CO evolution rate with a larger special surface area and an appropriate content of CQDs.

A new ratiometric fluorescent chemodosimeter for sensing of Hg2+ in water using irreversible reaction of arylboronic acid with Hg2+

Summary: A highly selective ratiometric fluorescent chemodosimeter was synthesized for the detection of Hg2+, which showed remarkable detection properties including high selectivity and sensitivity, large fluorescent signal changes, and well-operation in aqueous solutions. The displacement reaction between phenylboronic acid and Hg2+ ions provided a covalent adduct of mercury ion, leading to significant fluorescent signal changes when aggregated in aqueous solution. With a low detection limit of 15.2 nM, nanomolar concentrations of Hg2+ could be successfully detected, providing a ratiometric fluorescent detection method for quantifying low levels of Hg2+ in groundwater and tap water samples.
