The impact of COVID-19 on fertility behaviour and intentions in a middle income country

Summary: The COVID pandemic has had an impact on fertility intentions and behavior in the Republic of Moldova. Changes in the use of contraceptives were observed, with a decrease in the use of intrauterine devices and an increase in the use of male condoms. However, there was no overall decrease in contraceptive use. Individuals interviewed after the onset of the pandemic were less likely to be trying to conceive in the short term, but medium term fertility intentions remained unchanged.

The distributional impact of recessions: The global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic recession

Summary: Using U.S. Current Population Survey data, this paper compares the distributional impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis and those of Global Financial Crisis in terms of worker and job characteristics, finding that young and less educated workers were more affected during the Pandemic Recession. Additionally, employment in social industries fell more, whereas employment in teleworkable and essential jobs fell less during the Pandemic Crisis, indicating a significant distributional impact on low-income workers in both recessions.
