Buycotting to save the neighbourhood? exploring the altered meaning of social infrastructures of consumption during the Covid-19 crisis in Linden, Hannover, Germany

Summary: This paper explores the emergence of solidarity and locality discourse in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, particularly the call for solidarity-based consumption. Through photographic documentation and the voices of small-shop owners, the shifts in the meaning of consumption and the local geographies of boycotting are revealed. The paper also highlights the framing of purchases at local stores as essential acts of local support.

Anxious immobilities: an ethnography of coping with contagion (Covid-19) in Macau

Summary: In February 2020, the pandemic of Covid-19 affected the social and economic life in Macau, leading to anxieties over movement and distance. Despite having very few actual cases, the Macau government quickly implemented a lockdown. This article reflects on the experience of anxious immobility during the lockdown and discusses the politics of mobilities between Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China, and the rest of the world based on ethnographic research.
