Exploring the structural effects of the ICT sector in the Greek economy: A quantitative approach based on input-output and network analysis

Summary: This paper presents a quantification approach for calculating the structural effects of the ICT sector in the Greek economy. The study finds that the ICT sector, particularly the ICT services component, has a significant contribution to the Greek economy in terms of GDP and employment. However, ICT services are more integrated in the Greek production network compared to ICT manufacturing, but their production linkages are underperforming in terms of contributing meaningfully to other sectors.

The results indicate that there is a coordinated development between urban smartness and sustainability, which is trending upwards. The impacts of ICT, human capital, and smart governance on urban sustainability differ in smart cities with different contexts.

Urban land expansion: the role of population and economic growth for 300+ cities

However, the importance of GDP growth in urban land expansion has increased since 2000. In countries with strong governance, economic growth plays a bigger role in urban land expansion than population growth. The study also highlights the correlation between urban population growth and urban land expansion, which varies across countries at different developmental stages.

Sustainable Smart Cities and Industrial Ecosystem: Structural and Relational Changes of the Smart City Industries in Korea

Summary: This study examines the changing industrial ecosystem of smart cities in Korea using input-output and structural path analysis from 1960 to 2015. The results show that smart industries such as smart buildings and smart vehicles are anchor industries in Korean smart cities, and they are positively correlated with IT Manufacturing, IT Services and Knowledge Services. The transformation from labor-intensive manufacturing and diesel cars to high-tech industries and services has led to sustainable national economic growth in Korea.
